Galaxy Note 20 lineup picks up December 2023 security update

While the Android 14-based One UI 6 update is Samsung’s priority right now, the company is making time for the security updates it regularly provides to many Galaxy devices. The December 2023 security patch was detailed by Samsung earlier this week and the Galaxy S23 series was the first to get it.

The December update is now rolling out to the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Samsung’s final two phones with the Note branding aren’t eligible for any major OS upgrades after Android 13 and One UI 5.1, but they are still among the Galaxy phones that receive security updates every month, and the latest one includes fixes for several vulnerabilities discovered in Android and One UI.

Galaxy Note 20 December update is as boring as they come

The December patch contains a total of 75 fixes for known security vulnerabilities. 54 of those fixes come from Google for the base Android OS and 16 fixes are for vulnerabilities only affecting Samsung’s software. Four fixes come from Samsung’s semiconductor division for vulnerabilities affecting devices with some specific Exynos chips, including an Exynos chip (the W920) that powers Samsung’s smartwatches.

The latest Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra update has nothing else to offer, which is to be expected. It comes with a firmware version ending in HWL1 and is only rolling out in some South American nations for now, but a wider rollout shouldn’t be too far off.

You can download the update on your Galaxy Note 20 or Galaxy Note 20 Ultra from its Settings » Software update menu. Alternatively, download the latest firmware from the SamMobile archive and install it on the phone using a Windows PC.
