Galaxy Watch 6 could bring back the physical rotating bezel

0 33

Samsung could be bringing back a much-loved Galaxy Watch feature this year. The Galaxy Watch 6 Pro will reportedly include a physical rotating bezel. The iconic bezel ring was missing on last year’s Galaxy Watch 5 Pro but existed on the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic in 2021.

Samsung’s iconic physical rotating bezel might be back

Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch 5 in three sizes last year — 40mm, 44mm, and 45mm. The latter was called the Pro and came with a massive battery (590mAh). The company was expected to keep the same smartwatch portfolio this year. In line with those expectations, it got the batteries for the 40mm and 44mm Galaxy Watch 6 models (model numbers SM-R93* and SM-R94*) certified by Safety Korea a couple of weeks back. We could see that the new wearables will pack marginally bigger batteries than their respective predecessors.

While the battery unit for the third Galaxy Watch 6 model (SM-R95*) was missing around that time, GalaxyClub recently spotted it as well. However, its capacity suggests it isn’t for the Pro model. The battery pack (model number EB-BR955ABY) has a capacity of just 300mAh, the same as the 40mm model. This could either mean Samsung won’t launch a Galaxy Watch 6 Pro this year or we will get four different watches. And the latter seems more likely because the publication has unearthed more evidence, including the potential inclusion of a physical rotating bezel.

According to the new report, Samsung is developing two versions of the Galaxy Watch 6 series codenamed “Fresh6” and “Wise6”. For reference, Fresh and Wise were the company’s codenames for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, respectively. This suggests the new watches will arrive in four models like the 2021 series — a vanilla version without a physical bezel (40mm and 44mm) and a Pro/Classic version with a physical bezel (42mm and 45mm/46mm). There’s also a possibility that we will get a fifth model with a big battery.

The Galaxy Watch 6 will launch in the second half of this year

Unfortunately, it’s still too early to reach any conclusion. But this is a strong indication that Samsung may bring back the iconic physical bezel ring this year. The models without the physical ring may get a curved glass design. If history is any indication, leaks about the Galaxy Watch 6 series should start coming more frequently soon. The new wearables are expected to arrive alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables in August or September this year. We will keep you posted with the latest information about these Samsung products.
