0 40

If you are still using Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, then you should upgrade to Windows 11 now.

It is confirmed! If your laptop is running the older version of Chrome, then it will stop working within a few days. This is so because current Chrome 109 is the last version of Chrome that will support Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1. Not just that, the decision matches the Microsoft announcement too. Microsoft announced that it will end the support for all editions of Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2. January 10 is when Microsoft will end support for all security updates.

However, it must be noted that Microsoft has already withdrawn the security support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 three years back. But the latest announcement affects the users who have purchased Microsoft’s Extended Security Update program and still have access to these older operating systems. Similarly, Google also announced that Chrome 110 which is tentatively scheduled for release on February 7th, 2023 is the first version of Chrome that requires Windows 10 or later.

Older versions of Chrome will continue to work, but there will be no further updates released for users on these operating systems. So,”If you are currently on Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1, we encourage you to move to a supported Windows version to ensure you continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features,” Google said in a blog post. Support for WebView2 tools will also be discontinued on January 10. Along with Google Chrome, Edge will also end support for these browsers for its future versions.

Know how to upgrade to the latest Windows 11 to continue receiving security updates and using the latest versions of the browsers.
