Earlier this year Amazon and Dead Island 2 creators Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios announced that you’d be able to use Alexa to control parts of the game. And today you’re able to see it in action. On the official Dead Island 2 YouTube channel, a new video showcases just how Alex Game Control works, and how it’s incorporated into the game.
With just your voice, you can tell the game to equip certain items and even activate special powers. Each studio that weaves this into the mechanics of their games will likely have their own unique voice triggers. But there also seems to be some universal ones that will apply to titles across the board. When you say “give me my best weapon” for example, Alexa can tell the game to do just that. Equip your character with your best weapon.
Dead Island 2 players will be the first to experience this new feature. Expanding the possibilities of how you can play games.

Dead Island 2 has been a long time coming. And when it finally launches on April 28 of 2023, Alex Game Control commands will be available from the get-go for Xbox and PC players. According to Amazon there are a handful of commands that can be issued. Saying “hey zombie” gets the attention of zombies and causes them to start making their way towards you. You can also say “go loco” to activate what looks like an ultimate ability of some kind that your character has.
While it’s too early to tell how well the feature works and if it’s actually useful, it’s an interesting way to augment the gameplay. And it could have a really cool impact on those with accessibility needs.
