How to set illustrated profile pictures in Contacts app

0 49

Introduction
Google launched the “Google Illustrations” feature for Gmail back in 2021. This tool helps users create and set custom illustrated profile pictures on their Gmail accounts. The tech giant has reportedly added that feature to Google Contacts app. Just like in Gmail, it also allows users to set custom illustrated contact avatars.

Users can find a new tab called “Illustrations” next to “Google Photos” and “Device Photos” in the Contacts app.

The development comes a few days after Google rolled out a new feature called the “Highlights” tab for its Contacts app. It is made available alongside the ‘Contacts’ and ‘Fix and Manage’ tabs. The “Highlights” tab allows users to find their favourite contacts in one place and can also view their recent searches. Android users can access the feature using the latest version of the Google Contacts app.

Illustrations on Contacts app
“Illustrations” feature basically offers a large collection of images, some of which are of animals, locations and cities, nature, food, interests and hobbies, sports, and recreation. These collections were previously present in the “Illustrations” section of Gmail and the company has now added more images as well as illustrations to each of these subcategories.

When it comes to using the feature, all you have to do is select one of the many images available in the app and set it as your profile picture. If you’re on the editor screen after choosing an image, a new feature called “quick crops” will highlight the visually appealing areas of the image and combine them with other colour tools to enhance the appeal and immersion of the illustrations.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to show you how you can add an illustration to any of your contact icons:

1.

Open the Google Contacts app on your Android device.

2.

Select any of your contacts.

3.

Then, edit the contact profile by tapping on the pen icon available in the top-right corner.

4.

Tap on the Add picture button available below the Contact Avatar space.

5.

If you already have set a profile picture for the contact and now want to set an illustrated one, then select the Change option.

6.

Under the Illustrations tab, select any design of your choice.

7.

Select the colour variants of the illustration, and tap on the Choose button.

8.

Hit the Save button.

Conclusion
Your contacts’ phonebook entries will have a distinctive look after you set an illustrated profile picture as your contact avatar.
