June Security Update Starts Rolling Out To Galaxy S21 Series

0 80

Samsung has begun rolling out the June 2022 Android security patch to the Galaxy S21 series. The 2021 Galaxy flagships are first getting the new security update in Europe. The rollout should soon expand to other regions too, including the US.

As of this writing, the June SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra is available to users in Germany. Over the next few days, it will reach users in other European countries as well. The updated firmware version for the phones is G99*BXXU5CVEB.

The Galaxy S21 series follows the Galaxy Tab S7 series in receiving the June security update. The rollout for the latter also began in Europe and is already available widely in the region. No other Samsung device has picked up the latest SMR yet, and possibly no non-Samsung device either. The Korean firm has been putting other Android OEMs to shame with the pace of its security updates for over a year now. This time around, it began the rollout almost two weeks ahead of time. The company is now gradually adding more Galaxy models to the party.

Unfortunately, we still don’t have any info regarding the content of the June SMR. As usual, it should contain fixes for several dozen Android OS vulnerabilities as well as a bunch of Samsung-specific privacy and security flaws, which the company calls SVEs (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures). Some of these vulnerabilities could be of critical severity. We are expecting the Korean firm to publish the updated security bulletin with the June patch later this week. We will update you accordingly.

The Galaxy S21 series may also be getting additional bug fixes and/or improvements with this update. Unfortunately, again, we don’t have the changelog handy to confirm that. We will let you know if we discover any major new features or changes with the latest software package for the 2021 Samsung flagships.

If you’re using any of the three Galaxy S21 models in Germany, the June SMR should be available to you anytime now if it hasn’t already. You will be notified once the OTA (over the air) package hits your unit. You can also manually check for updates from the Software update menu in the Settings app on your phone. Galaxy S21 users in other regions can also be on the lookout for the new security update.
