The vehicle, which has yet to be unveiled globally, comes with striking features evident in the latest spy shots. The SUV’s test mule was recently seen on Indian roads. Although it was heavily camouflaged, some key details and exterior features of the SUV can be seen.

Externally, the Clavis will come with a boxy design that features vertically stacked LED DRLs, LED headlamps and tail lamps, tiger nose grille, a clamshell bonnet design, front door-mounted ORVMs, dual-tone roof rails, and uniquely designed alloy wheels, along with a shark-fin antenna. At the rear, L-shaped LED lighting adorns the rear windshield, complemented by a high-mounted stop lamp and reflectors on the bumper.

Moving inside, the Clavis is anticipated to offer a host of premium features. The features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-tone upholstery, and a 360-degree camera. Moreover, it might come equipped with two 10.25-inch screens, ADAS and wireless charging options.

The Clavis will also not lack safety features. Airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC (electronic stability control), and hill hold assist as a standard across all variants. This move is done considering the increased awareness about safe cars among Indian customers.

Dimensions wise, the Clavis will be bigger than Sonet and smaller than Seltos. While specifics about its powertrain options are unknown, it’s speculated that the Clavis could be powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, NA petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual and AMT transmission on the base model.

Other engine options could include 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engines. Reports also suggest that an electric version of the car could be launched soon after the petrol and diesel variants are launched.

The Clavis is expected to rival higher end models of cars such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara brezza and lower end models of vehicles such as the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. This means the Clavis will be positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos in Kia’s India lineup.

There are no official confirmations regarding the launch date of the Clavis, but we can expect it to hit the showrooms by the end of 2024 or early 2025. Kia is expected to price the Clavis aggressively. The likely price range of the SUV is between Rs. 6 lakhs and Rs 10 lakhs. As Kia continues its testing, car buyers eagerly await further updates on this promising compact SUV, anticipating its potential impact on India’s competitive automotive scene.

Kia Motors is also developing an affordable electric car for the Indian market, which will sit in the 20-25 lakh rupee segment. Currently, the only electric car that Kia sells here is the EV6 crossover, which is priced at nearly 80 lakh. While the EV6 is imported as a completely built unit (CBU), the affordable EV will be built in India.
