Mahindra XUV300 sub-4 meter compact SUV facelift teased on Instagram ahead of launch

0 97

Mahindra has released a teaser of the facelifted XUV300 sub-4 meter compact SUV on Instagram ahead of launch. The facelifted, 2022 Mahindra XUV300 is expected to be launched in the coming days. The teaser indicates that visual changes will be quite minimal, and hints at a performance upgrade. Apart from the new Twin-Peak Mahindra logo, there’s no stylistic change that differentiates the facelifted XUV300 from the current version. The real change is likely to come under the skin – the engine department to be specific.

Mahindra is expected to equip the 2022 XUV300 with an uprated turbo petrol engine. The 1.2 liter-3 cylinder T-GDI unit is likely to see a higher state of tune, making 130 PS-230 Nm. This will reinforce the XUV300’s position as the most powerful compact SUV in its segment. Currently, the turbo petrol engine on the XUV300 makes 110 PS-200 Nm. There will be two gearboxes on offer – a 6 speed manual and an automated manual transmission (AMT). The diesel engine – a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder unit that makes a class leading 115 PS-300 Nm – will be carried over. The diesel engine gets the same gearbox options as the petrol motor – a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed AMT.

XUV300 Electric: Coming soon

While the facelifted XUV300 will be more of an incremental change, a big step forward for brand Mahindra will be the launch of the all-electric XUV300. The XUV300 Electric’s launch is slated for 6th September, and the electric SUV will take on the Tata Nexon EV. In terms of pricing, we expect the XUV300 Electric to start from under Rs. 15 lakh, rubbing shoulders with the Nexon EV.

While range per charge and performance figures have yet to be revealed, it’ll be safe to assume that the XUV300 Electric will match or exceed the specs of the Tata Nexon EV. This means a real world range of about 250-300 Kms, a 140 Kph top speed and a 0-100 Kph sprint timing of under 10 seconds are safe bets to make.

The XUV300 Electric, which is likely to be called the XUV400 EV, will be longer than the petrol/diesel engined models. The additional length could boost boot space of the electric vehicle. The reason for the additional length has to do with the fact that the XUV400 being an electric vehicle will not be constrained with the Indian government’s duty regulations on sub-4 meter cars.

The XUV300, which is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli (a compact SUV measuring over 4 meters in length), had to duck under 4 meters for excise duty benefits. The XUV400 EV does not qualify for excise benefits. So, there’s no reason for Mahindra to curtail its length to below 4 meters. The XUV400 will be front wheel driven, and get an automatic transmission as standard. Over to the launch now.
