Mystikal Arrested After Being Named a Suspect in Alleged Sexual Assault

Mystikal was arrested in Louisiana over the weekend on multiple charges, including first-degree rape and domestic abuse.
Per a report from regional outlet WAFB, Mystikal was arrested and booked after deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a hospital in the area in connection with an alleged sexual assault, with Mystikal—whose real name is Michael Tyler—ultimately being named as a suspect.
A press release from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, shared to social media on Monday, said that deputies responded to the hospital at around 11:58 p.m. local time on Saturday. The alleged victim was interviewed by responding detectives and was said to have exhibited “minor injuries” from the alleged assault. The investigation into the alleged assault remains in progress at the time of this writing, police said.
Online arrest records list 51-year-old Michael Tyler as “awaiting arraignment.” Listed charges include simple criminal damage to property (misdemeanor), false imprisonment (misdemeanor), domestic abuse and strangulation (felony), simple robbery (felony) ,and first-degree rape (felony).
According to WAFB, Mystikal is being held without bond. Complex has reached out to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office for comment.
Last April, Mystikal—who previously served a six-year sentence in connection with a sexual battery guilty plea from 2003—spoke with the Associated Press about being legally cleared of a rape and kidnapping allegation stemming from 2016.
The years-long legal battle, in Mystikal’s own words at the time, “was like a reoccurring bad dream.” The sexual encounter at the center of the 2016 allegation, Mystikal maintained, was consensual.
