NASA introduces its own streaming platform, “NASA+” with informative TV shows and live broadcasts

NASA has introduced its own on-demand streaming platform named “NASA+.”This streaming platform will feature all the live broadcasts that NASA already provides, in addition to showcasing original documentaries.

The new streaming platform, which is expected to launch in the coming months, will debut new informative TV shows. These shows will be free and ad-free, ensuring an uninterrupted viewing experience.

Jeff Seaton, chief information officer at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, said “NASA’s legacy footprint presents an opportunity to dramatically improve the user experience for the public we serve. Modernising our main websites from a technology standpoint and streamlining how the public engages with our content online are critical first steps in making our agency’s information more accessible, discoverable, and secure.”

The streaming service will be accessible through NASA’s mobile apps on iOS and Android devices. Users on desktop computers can access it through web browsers, while media players such as Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV will host the app.

NASA is revamping its digital presence by creating a new web and app experience that will integrate information about its missions, research projects, and updates on the Artemis program.

“We are putting space on demand and at your fingertips with NASA’s new streaming platform,” says Marc Etkind, associate administrator, Office of Communications, NASA Headquarters. “Transforming our digital presence will help us better tell the stories of how NASA explores the unknown in air and space, inspires through discovery, and innovates for the benefit of humanity.”

The new experience will consolidate content from various NASA websites and include integrated navigation and search functions for easier access to information.

The beta version of the upgraded web experience is available for viewing, but NASA plans to add more libraries and websites to it after it’s fully launched.

“From exoplanet research to better understanding Earth’s climate and the influence of the Sun on our planet along with exploration of the solar system, our new science and flagship websites, as well as forthcoming NASA+ videos, showcases our discovery programs in an interdisciplinary and crosscutting way, ultimately building stronger connections with our visitors and viewers,” adds Nicky Fox, associate administrator, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters.
