Netflix says that it has no plans to transition to the movie industry after the success Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery received. The film had a limited theatrical release during Thanksgiving weekend and received high praise and reception from fans and critics.

According to Deadline, Netflix founder and Co-CEO, Reed Hastings spoke during the New York Times DealBook conference in New York City about the potential future of the streaming platform. He clarified that Netflix has no plans to transition and that what happened in theaters recently was just a “promotional tactic for the streaming service.”

Hastings also pointed out Netflix’s goals and how limited theatrical releases were just a tool to encourage people to watch the film on the streaming platform. He also noticed that thanks to the film’s theatrical success, people are now talking about it.

“He said the streamer’s “two religions” are “customer satisfaction” and “operating income.” The Knives Out sequel in theaters was a tool “so more people watch it on the service.”

“Everyone is talking about Glass Onion, and on Dec. 3 the whole world will get to see it!”

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery received $13.2 million at the box office and managed to receive an average score of 93 percent from critics and audiences according to Rotten Tomatoes. Due to the film’s wild success, the film’s producer, Ram Bergman, talked about the possibility of making a third Knives Out film.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be released on Netflix on Dec. 23, 2022.
