Nissan X-Trail to take on Fortuner in India; Qashqai and Juke may come in future

0 60

Nissan launched the all-new Magnite compact SUV towards the end of 2020. However, since then, it has been a silent run for the Japanese carmaker. While the Magnite is raking in decent numbers for Nissan, the company’s other offering, the midsize SUV Kicks is almost dead in the face of the arrival of newer models. However, Nissan is planning to bounce back with not one or two, but three all-new SUVs for the Indian car market, all of which are its globally popular models.

Nissan is all set to bring the new X-Trail to take on the Toyota Fortuner in India. The second-generation Nissan X-Trail was available in the Indian car market, and was one of the first offerings from Nissan in India, though it never sold well. However, Nissan is planning a comeback for the X-Trail nameplate with the SUV’s fourth-generation model, which debuted globally in 2021.

This version of the X-Trail features an all-new design, with the Indian car market expected to get the 1.5-litre full-hybrid powertrain. The Nissan X-Trail will compete with the likes of premium SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross and Jeep Meridian. The all-new X-Trail will make a comeback to the Indian market after a hiatus of 8 long years. The full-size SUV did get some decent numbers in the Indian market. However, Nissan’s absence from the segment and Fortuner’s strengthening its position in the market over the years might make the comeback of the new X-Trail a little difficult.

Nissan Juke

The second in the lineup is the all-new Nissan Juke, a dramatic-looking midsize SUV which is expected to replace the ageing Kicks in the Nissan India lineup. The Juke is currently in its second-generation avatar, which debuted back in 2019. Currently, the Nissan Juke is available with two engine options in the overseas markets – the 1.6-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated 117 PS petrol engine and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged 117 PS petrol engine. The Indian car market is expected to get the turbocharged petrol engine option, given the trend. The Nissan Juke might be offered two transmission options of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic in India.

Nissan Qashqai

The next SUV in the lineup is the Nissan Qashqai, another midsize SUV which will be positioned above the slightly smaller Juke in Nissan India’s lineup. While the Juke will be pitched as a direct rival to the likes of Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta, the Nissan Qashqai will arrive as the rival of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector. Currently, in its third-generation version, which came out globally in 2021, the Nissan Qashqai is available overseas with the same 1.3-litre turbocharged 156PS petrol engine from the current-gen Kicks and a 1.5-litre full-hybrid powertrain. The Indian car market is expected to get both of these engine options.
