Official Galaxy Z Flip 4 Maison Margiela Edition unboxing is here: video

Samsung recently collaborated with French luxury fashion brand Maison Margiela to launch a limited edition Galaxy Z Flip 4. The device goes on sale in select markets starting tomorrow, including South Korea, China, and France. Ahead of that, the company has published an unboxing video of the handset.

In terms of design, specs, and features, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Maison Margiela Edition is the same clamshell foldable that debuted in August (review). But it gets some cosmetic overhaul inspired by the French brand. And that overhaul begins on the box itself. This limited-edition phone comes in a square white box featuring the Samsung and Maison Margiela branding. Inside it is another white box that has some Maison Margiela design touches.

The inner box unfolds like the handset itself. Once it is unfolded, the customized Galaxy Z Flip 4 sits atop. The device features a matte white rear panel and a silver metallic frame. The two rear panels have translucent lines around the border depicting the internal structure of the phone. The bottom panel also has Maison Margiela’s emblematic numeric coding ring (circled 11). This coding ring also serves as a counter when starting the phone. The screen counts from 1 to 11 and the device is on. 11 is circled for obvious reasons.

The default wallpaper on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Maison Margiela Edition is an x-ray image of the phone. In fact, Samsung has developed a completely new UX design with tailor-made app icons and other UI elements, all themed to a see-through design depicting the device’s internal components. Putting the handset aside, Maison Margiela’s design touches can be found on the in-box accessories as well. We have two customized protective cases both featuring the French brand’s “four stitches” emblem. One of them also features the numeric coding ring on the ring holder.

The in-box charger doesn’t get such heavy customization, though. We do see the Maison Margiela branding, but that’s about it. No extravaganza of numeric coding, stitches, and see-through design here. Of course, the customizations on the phone and cases come at a cost. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 Maison Margiela Edition will be available from Samsung’s website for KRW 2,550,000 in South Korea (approx. USD 1,935 at the current exchange rate). The regular model started at KRW 1,353,000 (approx. USD 1,030).

Samsung hasn’t revealed if the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Maison Margiela Edition will launch in more markets, such as the US. We doubt it will, though. Maison Margiela isn’t as popular a fashion brand as Gucci or Louis Vuitton everywhere. Rest assured, we will let you know if it ever arrives stateside. In the meantime, you can watch Samsung’s unboxing video below.
