JRD Tata, an extremely popular personality, owned a Mercedes-Benz 190D. The E-Class in the market today is derived from this model. This sedan features a retro-looking design that still looks elegant and premium today. Mr. Tata purchased this car back in 1961 from Germany, as Mercedes-Benz was not manufacturing their cars in India at the time. Since it was imported from Germany, it took almost 6 months to reach India. The Mercedes-Benz 190D was powered by a 1.8-liter in-line four-cylinder engine and had a top speed of 120 km/h.

One such car in Ratan Tata’s collection was the Buick Skylark, a 1978 model. This left-hand drive American car features a 5.0-liter V8 engine generating 145 Bhp. BMW had launched this car exclusively for the South East Asian, European, and Middle Eastern markets, and the “XL” in the name denoted LWB (Long WheelBase). At 5.3 meters, it is even longer than BMW’s 8 Series. The car is powered by a 5.4-liter V12 petrol engine that generates 322 Bhp of power and 490 Nm of torque.

The L7 variant was manufactured by BMW in 1997. Despite its size, this huge car can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 7 seconds. The top speed of this limousine was limited to 250 kmph. It’s uncertain whether the 750i XL L7 luxury sedan owned by the Ambanis was bulletproof like many of their current vehicles.
