Samsung has opened the One UI 5.0 beta program for the Galaxy S21 series. The first beta update for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra is now rolling out in South Korea (via). It should soon roll out in other markets too. The Android 13-based One UI 5.0 beta is also available to users in India, Germany, the UK, and the US.

The Galaxy S21 series joins its successor, the Galaxy S22, in the beta program. The latter got its first release about three weeks ago. Samsung released a second One UI 5.0 beta update for its latest flagships last week. It also expanded availability to a couple more countries, namely India and the UK. Now, just a few days later, the Korean firm is opening up doors for users of its 2021 flagships.

One UI 5.0 is the latest iteration of Samsung’s custom Android software. It is based on Android 13, which rolled out in the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) earlier this month. The new version brings plenty of new features and improvements to Galaxy smartphones’ software. From subtle UI changes and smoother animations to improved widgets, better gesture implementation, and newer privacy and security features, there’s a lot to look forward to.

However, major software releases need to be tested thoroughly for bugs and other issues before rolling out to the public. That’s why we have these beta programs. Samsung is testing One UI 5.0 for the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 phones ahead of the stable update that is rumored to begin in mid-October. But, before that, it will likely open beta programs for the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, and a few other phones too. We will keep you posted on it.

Meanwhile, if you’re interested in beta testing One UI 5.0 on your Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S22 phone, you can register through your Samsung Members account. If the beta program is available in your region and Samsung is still enrolling new users, you should see a banner for it on the app’s home screen. Tap on that banner and follow the on-screen instructions to register. Note that you will need a free Samsung account to use the Samsung Members app.

Once your phone is registered, you will receive the beta update over the air (OTA) like a regular software update. You can install the package to make the jump to Android 13 with One UI 5.0. Be wary that beta software may be buggy and show errors. However, you should get a more stable experience with subsequent beta releases.
