According to the latest report, Samsung is all set to develop its own in-house Central Processing Unit (CPU) that it will use on its Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy Book PCs. This important move has reportedly been taken by the South Korean tech giant to reduce the overall reliance on the British chip manufacturing company ARM.

There is one more important advantage of this move by Samsung to develop its own CPU. Apparently, it will help the company better optimize its devices, especially smartphones. As per multiple industry sources, Samsung Electronics recently held an internal meeting with a team dedicated to CPU core development. Accelerating this process, Samsung has even hired a senior developer who previously helmed the CPU development at US-based AMD and was leading the team.

Samsung is also working on a dedicated ‘Galaxy Chip’ for its Galaxy flagships

A CPU is known as the brain of a device. Samsung Electronics, along with other major AP manufacturing companies such as Qualcomm, rely on ARM for the CPU core on their APs. Samsung also uses ARM for the CPU core on its AP Exynos. So, the successful development of the CPU by Samsung Electronics will not only reduce the reliance on ARM but also allow the company to stand next to ARM and be a key player in the industry.

Samsung is also speeding up the process of developing a next-generation AP, such as a dedicated chip for its Galaxy S-series flagships. This chip, dubbed the Galaxy Chip, will debut sometime in 2025, as per internal sources. The chip, however, will be powered by an ARM CPU, as the company has recently started the development of its own CPU core.
