Toronto-raised actor Simu Liu is set to host the 2022 Juno Awards, organizers announced Wednesday.

The the star of Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will front the ceremony, which will broadcast from Toronto’s Budweiser Stage on Sunday, May 15.
“It’s an absolute honour to be hosting The 51st Annual JUNO Awards,” Liu said in a press release. “Canadian entertainment and culture hold a very important place in my heart and getting the chance to experience the festivities in my hometown makes the experience even more special to me.”

The Juno Awards honour the best in Canadian music.
This year’s event will mark the Junos’ first in-person celebration since the COVID-19 began. It will also be the first time the ceremony has been broadcast from an open-air venue.
Liu, who was one of the breakout stars of Kim’s Convenience, led Marvel’s Shang-Chi, which was one of the biggest movies at the box office in 2021.

Following its success, Liu landed a People’s Choice Award and was invited to host Saturday Night Live.
Liu starred for five seasons in the CBC original comedy series Kim’s Convenience, which was named Best Comedy Series at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards.
The Weeknd won big at last year’s Juno Awards, taking home five honours, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year and Single of the Year.
Nominations will be announced on March 1, with tickets available March 4 at 10 a.m.
The 2021 Juno Awards take place May 15 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music and CBC Listen, and globally at CBCMusic.ca/junos and CBC Music’s Facebook, YouTube and Twitter pages.
