‘Shazam!’ Star Has Something to Say about Absolutely Savage ‘Fury of the Gods’ Takedown

You have to feel sorry for the team behind Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Sure, the latest DC sequel is far from the finest offering from the franchise, but it’s clear that the cast and crew gave the movie their all and have been blindsided by how poorly received the film’s been both in fan and critical circles. Case in point, Rachel Zegler — who plays Daughter of Atlas, Anthea — has spoken out online against all the “senselessly mean” hate.

Zegler still isn’t done standing up to those who won’t stop dunking on Shazam! 2 either, as the West Side Story actress has responded to an admittedly hilarious savage takedown of the movie. WatchMojo elected to turn what could’ve been a harmless conversation-starter of a tweet, asking followers what they watched over the weekend, into a ruthless attack on Fury of the Gods, by maintaining that anyone saying Shazam was telling “a lie.”

In reply, a clearly stunned Zegler had just two words to say:

Considering that Zegler has openly admitted that she only joined Shazam in the first place because she simply needed a job, she likely had no idea that she would eventually have to deal with such endless backlash online. Although, sadly, Zegler already has experience in this area, what with complaints against her casting in Disney’s upcoming Snow White remake.

Zegler may remain open to returning as Anthea in a spinoff, preferably opposite her on-screen sisters Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu, but as WatchMojo harshly reminds us, Shazam! Fury of the Gods‘ box office failure makes any kind of franchise continuation unlikely. At least she’s soon to join another successful universe, in Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, coming this November.
