AMD FSR 3.1 improves upscaling quality and decouples it from frame generation

It didn’t take long for AMD’s promise of big AI upscaling news to come to fruition, as it turns out. In a surprise announcement, AMD has revealed the latest iteration of its FidelityFX Super Resolution technology: FSR 3.1. Touting massively improved image quality and more, it’s an exciting development. Now, the announcement of AMD FSR 3.1 isn’t just about incremental improvements to the technology’s supersampling algorithm: AMD is also adding its very own version of Nvidia’s DLAA anti-aliasing solution, as well as…

AMD FSR 3.1 promises better visuals, support for Xbox

At GDC 2024, AMD has announced an update to FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution), its upscaling tech for improving frame rates in games. FSR 3.1 brings some predicted improvements to image quality and stability, but with it, also some changes to how it’s positioned as a platform. The main tweak is that FSR 3.1 frame generation is now “decoupled” from FSR upscaling for the purpose of working “with other upscaling solutions.” Presumably, this means with Intel’s XeSS or Nvidia’s DLSS. This hopefully also means that you can…

Brian Westover / PCMag: Lenovo updates its $1,239+ ThinkPad X13, available as a laptop or 2-in-1, and $1,199+ ThinkPad L-series, adding a 16" model, available with Intel or AMD chips — The Lenovo ThinkPad family grows with new X- and L-series laptops, this time built around AI-enabled silicon from both AMD and Intel. Brian Westover / PCMag: Lenovo updates its $1,239+ ThinkPad X13, available as a laptop or 2-in-1, and $1,199+ ThinkPad L-series, adding a 16" model, available with Intel or AMD…

AMD is making the CPU more and more obsolete in gaming

Coburg University / AMD At GDC 2024, AMD just expanded on Microsoft’s recently announced Work Graphs API, and a quick demo shows just how powerful the new tech can be for gaming performance. AMD’s iteration moves draw calls and mesh nodes from the CPU to the GPU, cutting back on the time it takes to execute these tasks. As a result, AMD found that there was a massive performance improvement — rendering time saw a 64% boost — when using Work Graphs with mesh shaders. Microsoft introduced Work Graphs as a way to…

Sony Reportedly Launches Investigation Over PS5 Pro Specs Leak

Photo: Kyle Barr / GizmodoPlayStation 5 Pro news consists of only rumors so far—Sony hasn’t even confirmed the existence of a beefed-up console. However, a recent leak of the PS5 Pro specs appears to be legit and it’s reportedly prompted Sony to go on the hunt to find who spoiled the surprise.Who’s This Thing Actually for? | PlayStation Portal Hands OnYouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead uploaded a video Thursday with what appeared to be official documentation about the specs for the PS5 Pro. AMD Is Optimistic on AI PCs Bringing Greater Efficiency to Enterprise

AMD CEO Lisa Su was optimistic about the future of AI on PCs during her keynote at SXSW on March 11, held and livestreamed in Austin, Texas (Figure A). Su’s comments echo Jason Banta, vice president of product management at AMD, who spoke to TechRepublic in a call on March 8 about how professionals might use AI features on PCs going forward. AMD competes primarily with NVIDIA and Intel to capture the lucrative AI hardware market, and Su addressed the competition with pack leader NVIDIA in particular in her…

AMD needs to fix this one problem with its next-gen GPUs

Jacob Roach / Digital Trends AMD’s current-gen graphics cards have been a revelation. Last generation, AMD was able to hit performance parity with Nvidia while sacrificing ray tracing performance. This generation, AMD is maintaining parity while getting closer in ray tracing, as showcased by GPUs like the RX 7900 GRE. But the next frontier of gaming is rapidly approaching, and AMD’s current options aren’t up to the task right now. I’m talking about path tracing. Nvidia calls it “full ray tracing,” and it’s a…

Ryzen 7950X3D vs. 7900X3D vs. 7800X3D: Which is best ?

Jacob Roach / Digital Trends AMD’s Zen 4 3D V-Cache CPUs are true marvels of modern CPU performance. They offer exceptional gaming performance on par with the absolute best that Intel has to offer, and yet do it at a fraction of the power draw and heat output. They lose out on productivity performance, but that’s what the non-X3D AMD CPUs are for. And if you want all-rounders, but don’t mind high thermal design power (TDP) ratings, then Intel’s offerings are always an option. But out of the latest generation of X3D…

AMD Stock Opens Lower After Hitting An All-Time High- Latest NASDAQ: AMD Forecast & Analysis

After forming record highs in the last session, AMD stock price opened lower on Thursday. This correction occurs when the benchmark indices have given a gap-up opening. The S&P 500 index is up 37 points, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 index has gained 163 points at press time. The broader market sentiment around the semiconductor stocks remains positive as almost all the top stocks in the sector except for AMD are trading in the green on Thursday morning. The correction in AMD shares can be attributed…

Apple MacBook Air with M3 Review

MacBook Air with M3 13- and 15-InchThe Macbook Air redesign from two years ago is still just as silent, slim, and comfortable as you expect, but you won't see a massive difference from M2.The MacBook Air is a good choice for an ultra-thin, though fully capable laptop, regardless of whether you opt for the 15- or 13-inch design. It's everything you might expect from Apple, but it's not so different from M2 that you should feel the need to switch. What's most concerning is how Apple's MacBook Pro 14 is sitting a little too…
