How Intel’s Hybrid Architecture Came About, and What it Means for the Future of PCs: Interview with Gregory Bryant

Hot on the heels of CES 2022, Gadgets 360 was able to sit down for an exclusive interview with Gregory Bryant, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Client Computing Group, Intel. The company's virtual CES keynote this year, presented by Bryant, was packed with announcements about new 12th Gen desktop and laptop CPUs, all based on the 'Alder Lake' hybrid design which combines two completely different core architectures for the first time.Off stage, the 30-year Intel veteran also talked with us about new form…

Samsung Foundry starts production of 3nm semiconductor chips with GAA architecture

Samsung Foundry has announced that it has started the initial production of 3nm semiconductor chips at its Hwaseong factory in South Korea. Unlike previous generation chips that used FinFET, the South Korean firm is using the GAA (Gate All Around) transistor architecture, which significantly improves power efficiency. With MBCFET (Multi-Bridge-Channel FET) GAA architecture, Samsung’s 3nm chips get higher power efficiency by reducing supply voltage and enhancing the drive current capability. Samsung is also using…

An Intro to Zero Trust Architecture

Zero Trust is a security model based on a framework of principles for the design and implementation of IT systems to address cyber threats in increasingly decentralized environments. Users must be authenticated, authorized, and continuously validated before being granted access to systems and data. 90% of security decision-makers were familiar with the concept, up from just 20% just a year ago, a 2021 report found. The trend has no doubt been catalyzed by the growth of remote working and increased cloud adoption, as well…

Addressing the architecture of global trade in the context of climate

Trade is global, climate policy is regional—this creates tensions and a need for action. Credit: Shutterstock/Fortuner Climate policy is currently in the balance, as was evident this month in Bonn at the first round of UN negotiations since the start of the Ukraine war. On the one hand, governments must become more ambitious, increasing the costs of climate-damaging economic activity and, if necessary, securing this…

Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) Architecture Explained in Plain English Using Simple Diagrams | by Rukshan Pramoditha | Jun, 2022

Neural Networks and Deep Learning Course: Part 23Original image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay, edited by authorWe’ve already discussed one neural network architecture — Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). An MLP is not suitable to use with image data as a large number of parameters are involved in the network even for small images.Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are specially designed to work with images. They are widely used in the domain of computer vision. Here are the two main reasons for using CNNs instead of MLPs when…

AMD Shares New CPU Core Roadmap, 3nm Zen 5 by 2024, 4th-Gen Infinity Architecture

AMD shared a new core roadmap at its Financial Analysts Day 2022, outlining its projected architectural and process node enhancements through 2024. The roadmap includes 5nm and 4nm CPUs based on the Zen 4 architecture, along with 4nm and 3nm processors based on the Zen 5 architecture. In addition, AMD teased some initial details about the 3nm Zen 5 chips that will come to market in 2024 and shared details about the new 4th-gen AMD Infinity Architecture.AMD CPU Core Roadmap(Image credit: AMD)AMD’s CPU core roadmap isn’t…

Intel to Explore RISC-V Architecture for Zettascale Supercomputers

This week, Intel and the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC) said they would invest €400 million (around $426 million) in a laboratory that will develop RISC-V-based processors that could be used to build zettascale supercomputers. However, the lab will not focus solely on CPUs for next-generation supercomputers but also on processor uses for artificial intelligence applications and autonomous vehicles. The research laboratory will presumably be set up in Barcelona, Spain, and will receive €400 million from Intel and…

Basic Convolutional Neural Network Architectures

There are many convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures. Those architectures differ in how the layers are structured, the elements used in each layer, and how they are designed. This affects the speed and the accuracy of the model which will help to perform various tasks. The following are some of the common CNN architectures. The word "common" is referring to pre-trained weights which are fine-tuned by deep learning libraries such as Keras, TensorFlow, Fastai, and so on (Karim, 2019). AlexNet  This architecture…

Artificial Intelligence in Architecture – DZone AI

Artificial Intelligence in Architecture Artificial intelligence (AI) promises to revolutionize our present world. Not with anything so dramatic as sentient robots taking over society. Instead, it’s all about computer algorithms doing complex, interpretive tasks efficiently and, dare we say it, intelligently. One area where the promise seems exceptionally bright is architecture. In many ways, AI is the perfect tool for this field. Of course, there’s always an element of artistry when designing buildings and outdoor…

Queer Spaces by Adam Nathaniel Thurman and Joshua Mardell review – a fascinating LGBTQIA+ architecture history | Art and design books

Fonthill Abbey in Wiltshire is one of the great lost wonders of British architecture, a neo-gothic giant with cathedral-sized interiors, built from 1796 to 1813, whose 90-metre tower collapsed and was rebuilt several times. It fell for the last time in 1825, since when the rest of the building has all but disappeared. It also takes its place in Queer Spaces: An Atlas of LGBTQIA+ Places and Stories, alongside clubs, bars, railway carriages, bookshops, community centres, public parks, private houses and a Castro-era…
