Indian restaurateurs buy former Steuben’s property in Arvada

Three is the magic number for Kal Pant. Pant and fellow co-owners of Spice Room last month purchased an Arvada property that will become the Indian restaurant’s third location. “Somebody told me a long time ago don’t do more than three, three is ideal,” Pant said. “That stuck with me.” Pant — along with executive chef Ashok Joshi, chef Chhabi Pokharel and manager Raj Nyaupane — paid $2.09 million for the 5,725-square-foot building at 7355 Ralston Road in Arvada. The building was previously home to Steuben’s, which closed…

Arvada luxury home development finally rises near Coal Creek Canyon

It’s been nearly 44 years since Terry Ten Eyck bought 35 acres at the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon, motivated by a dream of buying up more land and building a community of custom-made luxury homes. After several lawsuits, a failed ballot measure to thwart the development and a cratered real estate scene during the Great Recession, the first two homes in Canyon Pines finally have begun to rise from the ground at the base of Coal Creek Peak. The construction is Arvada’s first major residential foray west of Colorado 93, where…

Xcel is expanding its work with Pano AI, a San Francisco-based company that will install 21 camera systems by the end of the year on more than 1.5 million acres across the utility’s territory. Heaven Creamery is scooping up real estate. The local ice cream parlor chain is moving its Cherry Creek store and has two new locations in the works in Arvada and Boulder. The additions will bring the company to six stores in the area. Owner Martha Trillo moved to Denver and opened the first Heaven Creamery in Centennial a few months before pandemic lockdowns. Arvada’s luxury home market is growing. The first eight lots in Canyon Pines, a 90-plot home development site nestled in the Arvada foothills, hit the market in March. Denver-based Peak Development purchased the 180-acre site known as 25377 State Highway 72 for $9 million nearly two years ago. Peak founder Chad Ellington said the first eight lots range from 0.5 to 1.5 acres in size and are listed for about $500,000 to a little more than $1 million. He said two lots have already sold for roughly $750,000, and prospective…

Regal Continental closes; Elvis comes back as Sonora Cinemas

The Regal Continental is no more. The popular multiplex, located just south of Hampden Avenue and Interstate 25, has seemingly fallen victim to bankruptcy closures by its parent company, Regal Cinemas, which were announced in January as part of a company-wide restructuring. At the time, owner Cineworld said the closures would include two of the company’s Colorado-based theaters — Meadows Stadium 12 in Littleton and SouthGlenn Stadium 14 in Centennial — out of 39 total planned closures. While the SouthGlenn location…

Elvis Cinemas has closed its three Denver theaters for good

The Elvis Cinemas chain, which counted a trio of movie theaters in Denver, Littleton and Arvada, has closed for good after more than two decades in business, according to a posting on its website. “Thanks to everyone who was a part or was a patron for the last 23 years,” owners wrote on elviscinemas.com this week. “We will miss all of you.” The family business represented one of the only multi-location exhibitors in Colorado that wasn’t owned or operated by out-of-state concerns. It may have flown under the radar for some…

STiX Crafthouse, a hockey specific sports bar, in Arvada

Jake Gross waited a long time for the Colorado Avalanche to hoist the Stanley Cup in Denver, but sometimes, he said, it felt like he waited ever longer for a reliable hockey bar. “I realized there were no good hockey spots to go watch the games, especially because of the issue with blackouts with the Avalanche and Altitude and all that,” he said, referencing the dispute between cable TV provider Comcast and the Altitude network, which caries the games. “So I waited around for a few years hoping someone would open a hockey…
