Denver cuts ribbon on Colorado Convention Center’s rooftop ballroom

Denver city officials and business leaders converged atop the Colorado Convention Center Thursday to celebrate the completion of an 80,000-square-foot rooftop ballroom — part of a project that’s a decade and $233 million in the making. The project hit several hurdles, including a bid-ridding scandal, but the focus at the ribbon-cutting ceremony was on the boost in downtown spending and tax revenue the expansion is expected to deliver. The new flexible space, dubbed the Bluebird Ballroom, comes with an outdoor terrace.…

A few years ago, Cakes Da Killa felt trapped. The Atlanta-via-NYC rapper and producer had released a few acclaimed mixtapes, each showcasing his blooming talent as a lyricist and stylist. But, no matter how dexterous, technical or transgressive his music, people always seemed to come back to one thing: “I was getting pigeonholed to just being known as a gay rapper,” he says, speaking via video from Montreal. “I felt my own image was overshadowing the actual music.”His solution was simple – let them say what they want, and…

The Ballroom Thieves – ‘Clouds’ review – Entertainment Focus

The ‘Clouds’ in the title of the Ballroom Thieves’ fourth LP allude to what hangs over the indie-folk duo of Martin Early and Calin Peters.  It’s their first album after the departure of former band member Devin Mauch. They were forced off the road, and they also went through a major car accident. The resulting album deals honestly with these issues and more — especially mental health — but their light melodies and gentle lyrical touch keep this album from weighing too heavily. ‘Worldender’ is an ominous title for…
