Study determines the accuracy of the Galaxy Watch4 body composition measurements

You’ve probably heard of the Body Mass Index and that it is not a particularly good measurement of your physical health. Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) is much better, but until relatively recently equipment for it was only available in gyms and clinics. Today smart wearables like the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch5 can measure BIA anytime, anywhere. But how accurate can those wrist-worn devices be? A joint research team from Louisiana State University, Pennington Biomedical Research Center and the University of…

New comet study tells us chemical composition of early solar system

A new study has found that the outgassing of molecules from comets could be the result of the composition from the beginning of our solar system. The outgassing of molecules from comets may be the product of the solar system's original composition, according to a recent study from the University of Central Florida. The Planetary Science Journal reported the findings there. Olga Harrington Pinto, a doctorate candidate in the College of Sciences' Physics Department at UCF, was the study's principal investigator.

A “Previously Unrecognized Link” – Land Plants Caused a Sudden Shift in Earth’s Composition

According to the researchers, the proliferation of plants completely altered the biosphere of Earth.A new study reveals that land plants changed Earth’s composition.According to research from the University of Southampton, the Earth’s continents’ composition suddenly shifted as a result of the evolution of land plants. In collaboration with colleagues from Queen’s University Canada, the University of Cambridge, the University of Aberdeen, and the China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, the Southampton researchers—led by…

Color composition preferences in art paintings are determined by color statistics

Relationship between the degree of preference for painting color compositions and color statistics. Credit: Toyohashi University of Technology A research team led by Professor Shigeki Nakauchi of Toyohashi University of Technology conducted an experimental study of the color composition preferences of 31,353 participants, for a total of 1,200 paintings with artificially manipulated color compositions. The group also…

Physicists Have Developed a Method for Predicting the Composition of Dark Matter

The presence of dark matter “χ” changes how much of each element will form. Dark matter is invisible matter…

Team composition, structure, members’ gender influence ability to focus, work together

Credit: CC0 Public Domain The ability of team members to work together across a range of tasks, called collective intelligence (CI), varies significantly between teams. Research suggests that the level of collective attention (the quality and coordination of members' focus) a team develops influences its level of CI. A new study examined what factors enhance collective attention, focusing on the influence of teams' hierarchy…

Researchers Unravel The Origin And Composition Of Red Spot On Pluto’s Moon Charon

Combining data obtained from several sources, scientists have managed to unravel the mystery behind the red cap on Pluto's moon Charon and its composition. NASA's interplanetary space probe New Horizons had captured the reddish region on the top of Charon and collected data in 2015. After the encounter, scientists soon speculated that the tholin-like material on Pluto's moon could be synthesized by breaking down methane molecules with the help of ultraviolet light. However, now, scientists from the Southwest Research…

Meteorite Discovery Challenges Our Understanding of How Mars Formed

A small chunk of rock that once broke away from Mars and found its way to Earth may hold clues that reveal surprising details about the red planet's formation.A new analysis of the Chassigny meteorite, which fell to Earth in 1815, suggests that the way Mars obtained its volatile gasses – such as carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and noble gasses – contradicts our current models about how planets form.  Planets are born, according to current models, from leftover star stuff. Stars form from a nebular cloud of dust and…

Juno’s Study Provides Insight on Jupiter’s Composition, Gravitational Field

Jupiter is usually acknowledged as the solar system's oldest planet. Scientists, however, want to know how long it took to create. A new study states that the planet's metal concentration and distribution suggest that Jupiter ate a lot of rocky planetesimals when it was young. Since the Juno spacecraft reached Jupiter in July 2016 and began collecting data, it has revolutionised the understanding of the planet's formation and development. Its Gravity Science instrument is one of the mission's highlights. It sends and…
