Part Two” gives sci-fi-obsessed Silicon Valley a reason to party

SAN FRANCISCO — In a top-floor atrium in downtown San Francisco last Thursday evening, tech workers from Google, Slack, X (formerly Twitter) and Mozilla mingled next to a pair of cardboard cutouts of Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. Dustin Moskovitz, a Facebook founder, chatted as others sipped from cannily named cocktails such as the Fremen Mirage (gin, coconut Campari, sweet vermouth) and the Arrakis Palms (vanilla pear purée, gin, Fever-Tree tonic). Tim O’Reilly, a tech industry veteran, dropped by. Alex Stamos, the…

Denver area closed sales in February jumped 31% from January

Denver’s housing market surged in February as the snow melted and temperatures climbed. More sellers opted to list their homes, the median sale price increased, and the number of days on market dropped, according to the monthly trends report from the Denver Metro Association of Realtors. “The days when sellers waited for their spring gardens to bloom before listing their homes for sale are now long gone. The February weather may have said ‘winter,’ but the market said, ‘spring,’” said Colleen Covell, an association market…

Indian restaurateurs buy former Steuben’s property in Arvada

Three is the magic number for Kal Pant. Pant and fellow co-owners of Spice Room last month purchased an Arvada property that will become the Indian restaurant’s third location. “Somebody told me a long time ago don’t do more than three, three is ideal,” Pant said. “That stuck with me.” Pant — along with executive chef Ashok Joshi, chef Chhabi Pokharel and manager Raj Nyaupane — paid $2.09 million for the 5,725-square-foot building at 7355 Ralston Road in Arvada. The building was previously home to Steuben’s, which closed…

Lawsuit targets companies for “orphaning” Colorado oil, gas wells

The land Cindy and Ronald McCormick bought for their “forever” home in the rolling hills of eastern Adams County came with a stunning view of the Front Range. It also came with an out-of-service oil well, an open pit, aging storage tanks, a dilapidated shed and a broken promise from a company to clean it all up. After learning that the company, Painted Pegasus Petroleum, went bankrupt, leaving nearly 200 wells across the county for others to take care of, the McCormicks decided to join a lawsuit seeking damages. The…

One year ago this month, Colorado’s Proposition 125 went into effect, allowing grocery stores across the state to sell wine. Clif Louis, owner of Cherry Creek’s The Vineyard Wine Shop, said his sales over the last year are down 36% compared to before the change. Josh Robinson, president of Argonaut Wine & Liquor in Cap Hill, said the store’s sales were down 15% the month the change went into effect, and are now…
