The FFXIV convoluted coin system hits Xbox today, here’s how it works

Final Fantasy XIV left beta testing and launched its full build today on Xbox Series X|S, ushering in a whole new group of players ready to explore the length and breadth of Eorzea and beyond. These Xbox players, however, have one extra obstacle the rest of us don’t — FFXIV Coins. FFXIV Coins are the new currency introduced with the debut of the Xbox version, available from the Microsoft platform’s store. They’re only redeemable on Xbox, and players need them for purchasing items in the Online Store, paying their…

FFXIV Patch 6.58 begins PvP Season 11, makes upgrading weapons easier – Destructoid

With Dawntrail on the horizon, though still with no confirmed release date, Final Fantasy XIV players are waking up to the last patch of the 6.5x era. It’s the bookend on the Anabaseios raid tier, and likely the version of the game you’ll spend the most time with leading into FFXIV 7.0. FFXIV Patch 6.58 doesn’t have a lengthy list of notes, but what the patch lacks in size, it makes up for in importance. There’s noteworthy changes to the Duty Finder / Raid Finder, adjustments to best-in-slot gear rewards, a new…

The 10 best Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) songs, ranked

I’m a firm believer that the music of Final Fantasy XIV is among its biggest selling points and you don’t even need to play the game to appreciate just how good it is. The, frankly genius, Sound Director and Composer Masayoshi Soken is someone who I have endless respect and praise for, but we’ll get into the reasons why later. Until then, in the spirit of celebrating Soken and the FFXIV sound team’s work, I’m narrowing down a list of favorites. As we await a new era of bangers in Dawntrail, let’s look at my personal top…

Final Fantasy XIV community pays tribute to Akira Toriyama with in-game vigils

With the sad passing of Dragon Ball Z creator Akira Toriyama, Final Fantasy XIV players have come together across the world to pay tribute to a hero and legend of the anime sphere. Since news of Toriyama’s passing broke, players have gathered outside the Pugilist’s guild in Ul’dah, many dressed as some of the creator’s most beloved characters. Although best known for creating the foundational world of Dragon Ball Z, Toriyama was also renowned for his work on much-loved RPGs. From his character designs in Chrono Trigger…

Get a pink Goobbue mount in FFXIV for the Hatching Tide and Little Ladies Day combined seasonal events

Final Fantasy XIV has a long list of recurring seasonal events that happen (mostly) around the same time every year. For 2024, two of these, Little Ladies’ Day and Hatching-tide, will combine into one celebration, beginning on March 14 and ending on April 1. Usually, the bulk of Little Ladies’ Day occurs in March, while Hatching-tide celebrates in April. Rather than splitting them up this year, we’re getting one combined mega event adding differing decorations across Eorzea between its three city-states. The only bummer…

The Sims 4 pays tribute to FFXIV again with cheeky nod to the Crystal Exarch

It’s not unheard of for games to feature nods to other games and eagle eyed players of The Sims 4 have noticed a less-than-subtle reference to Final Fantasy XIV’s Shadowbringers expansion in the latest Sims 4 Stuff Pack, Crystal Creations.  Players noticed this rather obvious (at least to those Simmers who play FFXIV) reference in the description of the Spire-Shaped Gemstone. If you hover over the gemstone, its description reads, “Your own mini crystal tower than an exarch would be proud of.” It’s a clear nod to a…

Crescent Moon Mount now available in the FFXIV Online Store – Destructoid

Mounts are always a popular item in Final Fantasy XIV, whether they are rewarded for in-game content or purchased for real money in the Online Store. The latest addition to the store, the Crescent Moon Mount, is a particularly awaited one.  We’ve known that this mount has been coming for a while and especially attentive players have noticed that it’s been included in the FFXIVCollect database for a few months. There had been speculation about whether this item would come in the form of a Seasonal Event reward, but…

FFXV collab returns to FFXIV with another chance for the Regalia Type-G Mount

Final Fantasy XIV welcomes Noctis back to Eorzea with the Final Fantasy XV collaboration event, A Nocturne for Heroes. Like other recurring events, the FFXIV x FFXV collab always comes with the same quests and rewards, but this one is particularly popular as it offers FFXIV’s first-ever four-person mount. Before now, players have been able to complete A Nocturne for Heroes in both 2019 and 2021. Now, after three years, it’s returning for new players, or those who simply never managed to complete the quest before,…

Square Enix clarifies its pricy FFXIV statue’s bonus emote, Apocalyptic Charades, is account-wide

When Square Enix announced the Meister Quality Hydaelyn & Zodiark figure back in January, along with its associated in-game emote Apocalyptic Charades, players were left shocked by not only the price of $350 but also by the accompanying emote’s limitations. According to the item description, Apocalyptic Charades was character locked.  This means that the emote would only be usable by one character associated with the buyer’s account, something that left many disappointed, considering the fact that FFXIV allows you to…

FFXIV Patch 6.57 unlocks Anabaseios Savage, preps for Xbox Open Beta

Patch 6.57 for FFXIV dropped in the early hours of February 13, bringing a host of updates in preparation for the upcoming Xbox open beta, lifted raid restrictions, and better A Realm Reborn quest rewards. It’s not a big patch, but it’s one worth mentioning. Savage Raiding restrictions lifted The biggest change with Patch 6.57 is the Anabaseios: Savage restrictions have been lifted, so you can now farm the raids to your heart’s content. Two Treasure Coffers now always appear after a clear, regardless of previous…
