Siemens Gamesa is having big wind turbine problems – why this is really bad

Siemens Gamesa reviewed its wind turbine fleet’s failure rates and discovered that it has much bigger problems than it thought – and that they could take years to fix. Big wind turbine problems at Siemens Gamesa Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA – one of the largest wind turbine makers in the world – is Siemens Energy AG’s wind turbine unit. Siemens Energy announced last night and today that, following a review of the company’s “failure rates of wind turbine components,” it found much…

Siemens Gamesa has designed an onshore wind turbine just for the US market

Siemens Gamesa has created a new onshore wind turbine that’s specially designed for US weather conditions – here’s what makes it unique. The Spanish-German wind giant says that its bespoke US onshore wind turbine “has the right design profile to maximize revenues by harnessing the wind conditions most common in the US and features a design lifetime longer than the industry standard.” The SG 44.164 lifetime is 25 years, whereas the standard lifetime of a wind turbine is 20 years. The wind…

Siemens Gamesa debuts a wind turbine tower made of sustainable steel

Renewable energy giant Siemens Gamesa today announced the launch of GreenerTower, a sustainable steel tower that reduces a wind turbine’s carbon footprint by 20%. Wind turbine towers made of sustainable steel Wind turbine towers are made up of 80% steel plates. Siemens Gamesa says its new GreenerTower will ensure a CO2 reduction of at least 63% in the tower steel plates compared to conventional steel production. The new GreenerTower is available for both onshore and offshore wind…

Siemens Gamesa spins up its most powerful offshore wind turbine

Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbine prototype – the company’s largest and most powerful wind turbine to date – is now ready to be powered up. It’s installed at the Danish national test center for large wind turbines in Osterild. Photo: Siemens Gamesa The Spanish-German wind giant’s SG 14-236 DD is also one of the most powerful wind turbines in the world: It will have an output of 14 megawatts (MW) and a rotor diameter of 236 meters (774 feet). It has a swept area of…

Siemens Gamesa launches recyclable onshore wind turbine blades

After getting the world’s first offshore wind turbine with recyclable blades up and spinning in August, Siemens Gamesa has just launched its RecyclableBlade for onshore wind power projects. The Siemens Gamesa RecyclableBlade for offshore was launched in September 2021 and installed at the 342 megawatt Kaskasi offshore wind farm in Germany in July 2022.  Siemens Gamesa has not yet said which sizes the recyclable onshore blades will be available in or when, nor how many recyclable onshore blades it’s produced so…
