Valve leaks Left 4 Dead prototype via a Counter-Strike update – Destructoid

Many of you will be aware that Left 4 Dead began as a mod for Counter-Strike called “Terror Strike.” However, it looks as though Valve accidentally released an early version of the former via an update of the latter. In patch 1.6 of Counter-Strike, players noticed “Terror Strike” had been compiled, seemingly unintentionally, and released to the public as part of the update. A post from Twitter user Gabe Follower shows a brief clip from it, with a comment saying that it didn’t take long for the community to work out how…

Take That: This Life review – more left turns than you’d expect | Take That

On the curious Days I Hate Myself, the sixth track on enduring manband Take That’s ninth album, Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen dip their toes into ska. Ska! It’s a surprising, not entirely satisfying move on an album that takes more left turns than you’d expect from a band who could easily ignore new music altogether and rely on a discography woven tightly into UK pop’s DNA.Recorded mainly in Nashville and New York, This Life eschews the anonymous synth-pop stylings of recent albums III and Wonderland to focus…

Left 4 Dead’s engine was ‘broken,’ ex-Valve employer recalls

It’s such a shame Back 4 Blood couldn’t quite scratch that Left 4 Dead itch. It was, after all, supposed to be a spiritual successor to Valve’s iconic zombie co-op series. Sadly, ’twas not to be. However, with the original L4D turning 15 recently, one of the OG developers reflects on the game. In a recent interview with Game Developer, former Valve creative lead Chet Faliszek waxes lyrical about the development of what would become an absolute classic in the FPS genre. With the idea being in development since 2005, it’s…

CZ Has Left Binance, SBF Is in Jail. Crypto Is About to Get Boring

The world’s largest crypto exchange, Binance, and its founder, Changpeng Zhao, pleaded guilty yesterday to criminal charges in the US, releasing a wave of pent-up tension that had hung over the crypto industry for years.Zhao, who also went by CZ, was one of the poster boys for crypto’s freewheeling and rebellious spirit, which hearkens back to the origins of the technology, built to undergird a parallel financial system outside the control of any government or bank. Under his leadership, Binance grew to become by far the…

Trump Gives Food to Soldiers and Police, Complains None Left for Him

Former president Donald Trump tried to do a charitable thing Sunday, handing out food to Texas National Guard soldiers, troopers, and others who will be working at the border during Thanksgiving. But he then complained that there wasn’t enough food left for him. “The food looked very good. I wanted to have some, but they didn’t have any for me. They had none left. That’s not good. That’s my kind of food too,” Trump said, drawing some chuckles from the crowd. Trump today at the TX State patrol officers…

There are only 7 years left to cut global emissions in half

By 2030, to avoid some of the worst impacts of climate change, global emissions need to be 43% lower than they were in 2019—a massive drop. That’s necessary to have a chance of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, a goal that a U.N. climate report said was critical in 2018. At the time, news headlines talked about having 12 years left to cut emissions in half. Now there are only seven years left (or fewer, if you assume that most changes need to be in place by the beginning of 2030). That’s a little more than…
