From Jupyter to Kubernetes: Refactoring and Deploying Notebooks Using Open-Source Tools | by Eduardo Blancas | Jun, 2022

Software Engineering For Data ScienceA step-by-step guide to going from a messy notebook to a pipeline running in KubernetesPhoto by Myriam Jessier on UnsplashNotebooks are great for rapid iterations and prototyping but quickly get messy. After working on a notebook, my code becomes difficult to manage and unsuitable for deployment. In production, code organization is essential for maintainability (it’s much easier to improve and debug organized code than a long, messy notebook). In this post, I’ll describe how you can use…

Best Laptop for Students 2022: Top Notebooks For Study

Whichever stage of education you’re at, owning a reliable laptop has arguably never been more important. Many school lessons, university lectures and even exams have been handled remotely during the pandemic, with at least some activities likely to stay online for the foreseeable future. But a laptop is also crucial for independent work, be it writing up an essay or revising for a test. However, the wealth of choice on offer makes it difficult to know which device to go for.  There’s no one-size-fits-all solution…

Creating a Custom Gym Environment for Jupyter Notebooks | by Steve Roberts | Jun, 2022

Part 1: Creating the frameworkThis article (split over two parts) describes the creation of a custom OpenAI Gym environment for Reinforcement Learning (RL) problems.Quite a few tutorials already exist that show how to create a custom Gym environment (see the References section for a few good links). In all of these examples, and indeed in the most common Gym environments, these produce either a text-based output (e.g. Frozenlake) or an image-based output that appears in a separate graphical window (e.g. Lunar…

Private Notebooks 1914-1916 by Ludwig Wittgenstein review – sex and logic | Philosophy books

Ludwig Wittgenstein joined the army the day after his native Austria-Hungary declared war on Russia in August 1914. He had been serving for almost three months when he received word that his brother Paul, a concert pianist, had lost his right arm in battle. “Again and again,” he wrote in his notebook, “I have to think of poor Paul, who has so suddenly been deprived of his vocation! How terrible! What philosophical outlook would it take to overcome such a thing? Can it even happen except through suicide!”Wittgenstein was…

The best smart notebooks for 2022

A smart notebook is a hybrid product — part digital, part analog — designed for people who like to put pen to paper the old-fashioned way but seek to save their writings, jottings, scribblings, doodlings, and notes in a decidedly newfangled way to the cloud. There's something about writing notes that delivers ideas and concepts indelibly into the brain in a way that's even better than voice memos or typing. And for those people, smart notebooks are the perfect combination of old and new. The best smart notebooks…
