350-Year-Old Theorem Reveals ‘Profound’ Connection Between Properties of Light : ScienceAlert

Dutch-born Christiaan Huygens is probably one of the most famous physicists you've never heard of. His work in the late 17th century straddled both the intangible and tangible realms of our Universe: the nature of light, and the mechanics of moving objects.Among his many contributions, Huygens proposed a wave theory of light that would give rise to physical optics, which deals with the interference, diffraction, and polarization of light. He also invented the first pendulum clock; the most accurate timekeeper for almost…

“Hightech” Materials From Nature – Researchers Discover Surprising Properties of the Cytoskeleton

However, there are instances where these cells acquire mobility, enabling them to traverse the body. Such occurrences are…

‘Venom 3’ Debutant Has an Exciting Update for the Only One of Sony’s Live-Action Marvel Properties People Like

via Sony Sony may have changed the Marvel game in the animated department with its Spider-Verse endeavors, but the studio isn’t exactly killing it on the live-action front, to put it lightly. Indeed, the debacle that followed Morbius just might go down as one of the most embarrassing plights in cinematic history, and overall faith in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is a bit hard to come by, despite efforts from the upcoming Kraven the Hunter. And while the Venom saga doesn’t exactly do this particular shared…

Commercial investors shift perspective of coastal properties in face of climate change

Credit: Pixabay/CC0 Public Domain Investors in commercial real estate are rethinking the values of coastal properties exposed to flood risk—even in northern U.S. locales that haven't suffered flood damage, according to researchers. This shift in perspective has implications for investors and developers alike as they determine the value of coastal properties amid a changing climate.

Metallic Clusters With Unique Properties for Advanced Technology

A multi-institute research team synthesized a family of nano-wheel-like metallic clusters, each with specific properties — such as fluorescence and different types of magnetism — that could advance next-generation technologies. Credit: Polyoxometalates, Tsinghua University PressResearchers in China have developed nano-wheels, a new family of metallic compounds with unique properties for use in advanced sensors and other technologies. The team synthesized lanthanide-based nano-clusters with diverse applications, including…

The impact of thermal drawdown-induced alterations in rock thermal properties on heat recovery

by KeAi Communications Co. (a) Variation of temperature, thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity during heat recovery. (b) Thermal breakthrough curves under different thermal parameters. (c) Production life spans under different thermal parameters. Results with different injection temperature are shown. A hetergeneous aperture scenario is also shown. Downtown office valuations flat as Denver retail, hospitality properties rebound

Commercial property owners in Denver are seeing less of a change in valuations this cycle than residential property owners. The median commercial property increased 17 percent in value compared to two years prior, while residential properties saw a median increase of 33 percent, according to the Denver assessor. The hospitality and retail sectors led the way on the commercial side, Assessor Keith Erffmeyer told a Denver City Council committee on Tuesday. Hotels and motels saw a median 33 percent increase, while retail…

Webb Unveils Physical Properties of Compact Galaxy From the Early Universe

A University of Minnesota Twin Cities-led team looked more than 13 billion years into the past to discover a unique, minuscule galaxy that could help astronomers learn more about galaxies that were present shortly after the Big Bang. Revealing Quantum Properties of Radiation – 2D Interaction Takes Researchers by Surprise

A single free electron propagates above the special layered structure that the researchers engineered, only a few tens of nanometers above it. During its movement, the electron emits discrete packets of radiation called “photons”. Between the electron and the photons it emitted, a connection of “quantum entanglement” is formed.
