PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan names God of War Ragnarök his favorite PS5 game – Destructoid

In September 2023, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan announced his departure. He will be succeeded by Sony’s current chief operating officer Hiroki Totoki, who Ryan expresses full confidence in. In an interview with Variety, he lists his favorite titles from each PlayStation generation for a little fun. Can’t say it’s a question that doesn’t pique my curiosity. God of War Ragnarok gets the thumbs up from him for the PS5 era. Not a bad choice from Ryan, though Ragnarok is one of those titles I keep getting…

Ragnarok’ Alum as the X-Men’s Arrival Fractures the Franchise as We Know It

It’s an open secret that the fate of Marvel‘s future rests on the muscular mutant shoulders of both the Fantastic Four and the X-Men. So it’s worth noting that we’ve just received an intriguing update on both fronts, which will either be cause for celebration or anxiety, depending on which side you fall on. For starters, The Fantastic Four is going to be borrowing a key creative mind from Thor: Ragnarok. But don’t worry, Love and Thunder haters, it isn’t Taika Waititi…The Fantastic Four will have an unexpected connection…

Ragnarok’ and ‘Black Widow’ Influence, But Is That Good?

To most people, it would seem as though the MCU is drawing its last breaths and hanging on to anything that would allow it to recreate the sensational box office streak of the Infinity Saga. And whether or not you’re for the expression, “catching lightning in a bottle twice,” Kevin Feige is apparently hopeful some of the upcoming movies will make those prospects real, namely The Fantastic Four, which, according to new reports, is bringing the studio’s “stalwart” on board to fix problems with the script ahead of its…

God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, More: December Games on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Apple

We've reached the last month of an incredible year in gaming, closing the season with a final rush of exciting titles as the Christmas holiday period fast approaches. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora — out now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X — is easily the biggest launch in December, transporting players to the never-seen-before Western Frontier of Pandora, teeming with awe-inspiring creatures and luminescent vegetation. It's a bit reminiscent of the James Cameron movies, in the sense that you awaken as a Na'vi orphan and…

God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla uses an old genre to tell a new story

As I battled my way through God of War Ragnarök’s new roguelike expansion, Valhalla, I was dying to learn the next part of Kratos’ story — and that story is what’s made me push through even when the game got tough.God of War’s recent entries — the 2018 reboot and Ragnarök — are renowned for their cinematic storytelling. The tight camera makes you feel like a direct observer to Kratos’ every move, and the excellent motion capture, writing, and voice acting make the characters of myth in the games seem like actual living…

‘God Of War Ragnarok Valhalla’ has an incredibly hard challenge

God Of War Ragnarok: Valhalla has a challenge that is so tough that the development team didn’t even beat it before the game shipped. Mihir Sheth, game director of God of War Ragnarok‘s Valhalla update, posted on X (formerly Twitter), writing that “there is an endgame challenge in God Of War Ragnarok Valhalla that no one of the dev team has completed on the hardest difficulty ‘Show Me Mastery”. Sheth continued, stating “I am so, so curious to see how quickly players will humble us… as they often do… but maybe this time…

How to permanently upgrade stats in God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla

Despite all falling into the roguelike genre, every game within that category handles progression differently. Some have no permanent upgrades and instead force the player to simply rely on their skills and luck during each run, while others dole out buffs and tools that the player can accumulate over multiple runs to make each one a bit easier. God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla falls into the latter category thanks to Master Seals. These special rewards allow Kratos to get permanent buffs to his base stats, easing the…

How to start the God of War: Ragnarok Valhalla DLC

God of War Ragnarok’s main story is memorable, but some of the smaller moments are what have stuck with me most since completing it. I'm not just talking about its moments of quiet, but its optional Favors as well. These sidequests can be entirely ignored, but skipping them is a mistake as they contain some of the game’s best scenes. It's a trait that God of War Ragnarok shares with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, one of the best RPGs of the last decade. In some large RPGs, sidequests can often boil down to boring fetch…
