The Rebooted Witness: A Tale of Betrayal and Artificial Intelligence

“We’re not going to tell anyone that he died.” “Stop calling the AI him, and why the fuck would anyone say something about this?” I tried to drown out the other’s bickering voices, Milo's blood-soaked ear bumping into my leg rhythmically as me and my three shipmates carried him down the USS Harbinger's narrow hallway. I tried not to look down at him either. He was the first of this new model, the harbinger of doom for our $37.43 an-hour job, one of the last remaining livable waged jobs.Read All “We’re not going to tell…

James Gunn Should Beware the Fandom’s Power if His Rebooted DCU Snubs This Justice League Hero Yet Again

Image via DC Comics James Gunn has kept us waiting so long for the first wave of announcements for his rebooted DCU — which is officially going by the title DCU Chapter One, akin to the MCU’s own Phase One — that DC fans have let their expectations get the better of them. Everyone now seems convinced that Gunn is going to make all of their biggest dreams for the universe come true. And right at the top of the list is a project for the Justice League hero the movies have most criminally wasted. You guessed…

The Rare and Often Rebooted Exploits of the Green Mask, Up for Auction

| Anyone who's been reading comic books and/or watching comic book movies for any length of time knows that superhero origins are subject to change.  This has been going on since the Golden Age. We discussed some early Blue Beetle origin revisions recently, and a similar situation developed with another Fox Features Syndicate hero named Green Mask.  Both characters had debuted in Mystery Men Comics #1 in 1939 and were rebooted with added superpowers when they both received their own series early the next year.  In Green…

Rebooted ‘GamesMaster’ TV show to return again in 2023

The classic British TV show GamesMaster will return next year, Channel 4 has confirmed. GamesMaster, which among reviews and other strands often pits members of the public against celebrities in video game challenges, originally ran from 1992-1998. Last year, the show made a comeback in the form of three special episodes broadcasted on E4 and the E4 YouTube channel. Now, Channel 4 has confirmed that the series will be back in 2023. A press release on the Channel 4 Sales website states that GamesMaster’s return will be in…

Rebooted Mars Express instrument peers inside moon Phobos

A nearly 20-year-old instrument on the European Space Agency (ESA)’s Mars Express orbiter recently received a software upgrade which has enabled it to study the martian moon Phobos in greater detail than ever before. The Mars Advanced Radar for Subsurface and Ionosphere Sounding or MARSIS instrument was originally designed to study the interior of Mars, but in a recent flyby, it was able to gather close-up data on one of Mars’s two moons. MARSIS was updated from its Windows 98-based software earlier this summer,…

The Sequel to a Horror That’s Being Rebooted as a Trilogy Cleaves Into the Streaming Top 10

via Aviron Pictures Few genres run out of fresh ideas faster than horror, and never has that been truer than the recent announcement that The Strangers was being rebooted and relaunched as a three-film series. The original only arrived in 2008, where it went on to earn $82 million at the box office on a budget of just $9 million in spite of less than stellar reviews, but the high profit margins inevitably gave rise to a second chapter. Sequel Prey at Night spent almost a decade in development hell before faring…

2022 Volkswagen ID Buzz first drive review: An icon rebooted

Volkswagen’s growing family of ID-badged electric cars has a new mascot: the ID. Buzz. Inspired by the vintage air-cooled Bus models and previewed by a close-to-production concept unveiled in 2017, the heritage-laced van offers an electric powertrain, an eye-catching design, plus an interior that’s high-tech and almost lounge-like. I tested a Buzz prototype in England in February 2022 and walked away impressed, and time driving a regular-production model in and around Copenhagen, Denmark, confirmed these impressions.…

‘Alone In The Dark’ being rebooted with ‘Amnesia’ writer

A sequel to classic horror franchise Alone In The Dark has been announced, and it’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Under development at Pieces Interactive the reboot currently has no release date, but yesterday’s (August 12) trailer shows how the title appears to be going down the Resident Evil remake route – trading fixed camera angles for an over the shoulder third-person perspective. Check out the trailer below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0WPDDn6DpY There’s some top tier horror talent involved with the…

Where Is Anne Frank? review – Holocaust diary imaginatively rebooted for the YA generation | Film

The story of Anne Frank and her diary is retold in this fervent, heartfelt and visually wonderful animated film from Israeli director Ari Folman, who made his name with the animated historical satire Waltz With Bashir in 2008. This is a kind of reinvention or fantasy reboot, reading the story again through a contemporary lens and giving it a kind of YA identity; not inappropriate, given that Anne Frank was arguably the great ancestor of YA.Folman’s conceit is to bring someone back to life in Amsterdam of the near future:…

Climate Change Breaks Plant Immune Systems. Can They Be Rebooted?

Much of this work has been done on the hardy arabidopsis—“the lab rat of plants,” as He puts it. There are a few things that make it the perfect test subject. One is that the humble weed’s genome is fairly short, part of the reason it was the first plant to be fully sequenced. Another is the unique way its code can be modified. For most plants, the process is painstaking. New genetic material is introduced in a petri dish, borne by bacteria that slip into the plant’s cells. Once that happens, those modified cells must be…
