‘The Rings of Power’ Isn’t Trying to Imitate Peter Jackson, Says Showrunner

Image via Amazon Studios / The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is consulting Peter Jackson and his writers, bringing on Tolkien expert Tom Shippey, contracting Weta Workshop to work on set pieces and Weta Digital on the VFX like in the movies, and last but not least, hiring Howard Shore to score the new Prime Video series. But showrunner Patrick McKay insists that they’re not trying to imitate the cinematic trilogies, but rather do their own thing with Tolkien’s…

The Rings of Power’ Magazine Cover Reveals Look at Warrior Galadriel

Photo via Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power/Amazon Studios The Galadriel we remember from Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies was a thoughtful, stoic leader of the Lórien elves. The much-younger Galadriel in Amazon’s upcoming The Rings of Power, however, will make you question everything you knew about the character. Because unlike our glimmering Lady of Galadhrim, Morfydd Clark’s version is only here to take names and kick orc butt. With only three months to go until The Lord of…

Lord of the Rings Gollum game release date is September, Switch delayed

September 1, 2022 The Lord of the Rings Gollum game release date has been revealed, and one platform will be sitting things out for a bit. So the beans have been spilled today: it’s out on September 1 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Sadly, Switch users will have to wait for an indeterminate amount of time beyond that initial Gollum game release date, as that version has been delayed until “later this year.” I’m still really interested in the tricksy nature of the creation of this game from a macro…

Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon confirmed during a hands-off preview event attended by Digital Trends that this unique Lord of the Rings game finally launches on September 1.  Daedalic Entertainment first announced The Lord of the Rings: Gollum in 2019, but the game was pushed back to 2022 when Nacon came on board as publisher. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer for this adventure as it’s only a few months away. Since its announcement,…

GRRM Rooting for ‘House of the Dragon’ Over ‘The Rings of Power’

HBO George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones and J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings have been battling over the crown of the best high fantasy story on the fringes of their respective fandoms since forever, but the competition has never been as explicit as it is now, with both HBO’s House of the Dragon and Amazon’s The Rings of Power coming out later this year and in a dangerously close time window at that. Despite the fact that Amazon’s LOTR adaptation is one of the most ambitious television shows in history,…

Get ready to jump back into the vibrant world of Middle-earth with Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth, the newest game inspired by the fantastic literary work. We’ve already had dozens of games based on all the books in this series, including The Hobbit, as well as experiences that explore other stories not yet told in those original texts, with the most notable being Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel Shadow of War. However, the mobile space has not had a big hit with this IP as of yet. Lord of the…

Addams Family actor John Astin reveals he auditioned for Gandalf in Lord of The Rings

John Astin, who played Gomez in the original Addams Family television show, has revealed that he auditioned for the part of Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s Lord of The Rings film franchise. Astin, who is now 92, said he “tested a few times for Gandalf” but the role eventually went to British actor Ian McKellen. The films also starred Astin’s adopted son, actor Sean Astin, who played the character of Samwise Gamgee. “The last test I did, they gave me something out of the second book, and I studied it and came up with what I…

EA is making a Lord of the Rings mobile ‘collectible RPG’

A new Lord of the Rings game is on the way to mobile devices thanks to a new partnership between EA and Middle-Earth Enterprises, a division of The Saul Zaentz Company. The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth is a free-to-play “Collectible RPG” that EA plans to add to its live service portfolio. This new partnership comes shortly after the Lord of the Rings gaming and movie rights went on sale by Zaentz Co., the rights holder of the series.
