Apple lawsuit: Built by Steve Jobs, Apple is like “Hotel California, you can check out but you can never leave”

Call it a "walled garden" or an ecosystem, but at the heart of Thursday's blockbuster US lawsuit against Apple are the many ways the company gets customers to remain faithful to its products.- Apple versus PCs -Very early on in its nearly half-century history, Apple made a decision that its products were to stand out alone and shouldn't be combined with products from other companies. ‘If you’re anointed tonight, you can be dumped on tomorrow’: Steve Martin on fame, failure and TV humiliation | Documentary films

I didn’t expect Steve Martin to be funny. Sure, it was his skewwhiff sensibility that made The Jerk, The Man With Two Brains, LA Story and Bowfinger so deliriously inspired. Steve Harley: 1970s Cockney Rebel who took risks and wrote hits | Steve Harley

Steve Harley was many things, but a man crippled by modesty was not among them.In his first big music press interview – before the appearance of Cockney Rebel’s debut album, when all they had released was a solitary single that featured a 40-piece orchestra, which had failed to make the UK charts – he proclaimed his band “a musical force that others will follow” and pitted himself squarely against the biggest names in British pop. Cockney Rebel, he suggested, would kick David Bowie “up the arse”: “he’ll say ‘I’ve got to…
