After Skull and Bones, try this excellent pirate game

Mimimi Games After a long voyage filled with delays, Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones is finally out. The multiplayer pirate game sailed through troubling waters in order to get to where it is today, but its launch hasn’t been smooth sailing. It’s earned a mixed reaction so far, despite its combat and visuals impressing. Those highlights couldn’t turn the tides of criticism against it, as some reviewers aren’t as impressed with its narrative and repetitive missions. Skull and Bones was envisioned as an expansion of…

Skull and Bones review: it shivered me timbers

I love a good pirate game. I even have a list of my favourites. At the third spot is Tales of Monkey Island. A gem of a game that is the face of old-school point-and-click adventure titles. Then you have the 2004 remaster of Sid Meier’s Pirates! A fantastic game that is the epitome of what a pirate game should be. Finally, there is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It isn’t exactly a pirate game per se, but it that bit extremely well. The naval combat was great and the ship-to-ship melee combat made you feel like a true…

Rainbow Six SMOL is a bite-sized operation, out now for mobile

Ubisoft and Netflix have announced that Rainbow Six SMOL, the spin-off of the venerable Tom Clancy sub-series, is now available on Android and iOS. Rainbow Six SMOL takes the once realism-focused tactical FPS series and shrinks it down to cartoon-ish proportions. You command a squad of counterterrorists as they march around procedurally generated stages, blasting everything in sight. The press release suggests that you can take a sneak approach, but there are a lot of explosions in the trailer that suggest that’s…

Ubisoft turns Rainbow Six teeny tiny for new game on Netflix

The typically gritty world of Rainbow Six is getting a colorful makeover. Ubisoft just revealed the franchise’s latest spinoff, a mobile game called Rainbow Six: Smol that shrinks down the tactical action and adds a whole lot of goofy personality. The game is available now through Netflix games on both iOS and Android.“We saw an opportunity here to widen the audience a bit, with a more approachable take on the Rainbow Six universe,” creative director Renaud Forestié tells The Verge. The game features what Forestié…

Beyond Good and Evil Remaster appears on Korean ratings board

Last year, a leak showed that a remaster of Beyond Good and Evil is in the works for the 20th anniversary. At the time, the alleged game had been rated by the ESRB, and now the Ubisoft title has shown up on the Korean ratings board. The Game Rating and Administration Committee (or GRAC for short) has listed the project on its website, and has given it a 12+. While the site is in Korean, the actual title is right there in plain English, referring to it as Beyond Good and Evil Remaster. The listing was added on February…

Almost 700 Ubisoft workers strike in France over salary negotiations

Salary negotiations between Ubisoft workers and the gaming giant have gone sour, leading to a strike day organized by the French game workers union STJV (Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo). The mass strike took place on Valentine’s Day, February 14, and involved almost 700 employees from several of Ubisoft’s divisions, including the Paris, Montpellier, Annecy, Lyon, and Bordeaux studios. The conflict lies primarily with the alleged imbalance between management profits and the below inflation…

Skull and Bones – Destructoid

Skull and Bones is not a AAAA game. I’m not even exactly sure what would constitute being an AAAA game, but Skull and Bones is not it. That being said, that doesn’t mean Skull and Bones is a bad game. In fact, there’s some fun to be had here if you’re looking for a more arcade-style pirate adventure. I originally started my own pirate journey in the Skull and Bones open beta earlier this month, since the progress made in the beta carried over to launch. The beta had a cap on progress which I reached after about eight…

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Review: A Bold New Path for the Prince

In the past few years, Metroidvanias and action-adventure platformers have seen a resurgence. Ori and the Blind Forest, Hollow Knight and Dead Cells have breathed new life into the genre, bringing fresh ideas to its established ethos. There's also a renewed appetite for challenging games. Dark Souls came around in 2011 and redefined what one could take away from a video game. They can be fun, sure. But they can be punishing, too. Fast forward a decade, and we now have people playing Elden Ring with a steering wheel.…
