Best things to do on a weekend trip to Half Moon Bay

Several weeks ago, I stood by my wife at the edge of a golf course in a bone-chilling wind, waiting for a bagpiper to appear as waves crashed on rocks below. All we lacked was a wee dram of single-malt whisky. No, we weren’t in Scotland. We were visiting Half Moon Bay, about 380 miles north of Los Angeles, just 30 miles south of San Francisco. The town feels much removed from both big cities, thanks to the green, rugged hills just inland and downtown’s modest scale and measured pace. Despite growing numbers of weekend…

What to do this weekend: April Fools comedy, Basquiat exhibit

After two decades, the Hammer Museum’s $90-million reinvention is complete. The Westwood art museum introduced the additions — a new lobby, bank gallery and sculpture terrace — with a bang. I attended the opening celebration Saturday and danced to music by DJ Pee Wee (a.k.a. Anderson .Paak) between browsing the new exhibitions and installations. The Times’ Deborah Vankin reported on the Hammer’s large-scale, immersive installations and all the updates to the space. If you’re still intrigued, check it out for…

Did you check out the Diablo IV beta this weekend? – Destructoid

Lillith is the baddie… No, really The past two weekends saw Activision Blizzard roll out twin betas for its upcoming hellfest, Diablo IV. Pre-order customers were given the opportunity to revisit Sanctuary on the weekend of March 17, while everybody was invited to Hell and back on the weekend of March 24. These betas would offer die-hard fans of the BIG DEEEEEE their first look at the dungeon-crawling epic. Well, at least they were if they were able to get through the door… Online games, same old story, y’know? I,…

K-pop fans swarm cupsleeve events at L.A. cafes every weekend

Venture into an L.A. boba shop on any given weekend, and you may just find a space transformed by K-pop fans, throwing a party for their favorite musical artist. Life-size cardboard cutouts of beautiful Korean men greet you by the door. Shrieks of delight echo as enthusiastic fans find the perfect souvenir or the playlist switches to a beloved track. Avoid stepping into someone’s photo op by keeping an eye out for the streamer backdrops and glamour shots of the event’s idol of honor.Colloquially called “cupsleeves,”…

This viral AI-generated image fooled everyone this weekend

Thought you could point out an AI-generated image? Well, this viral image tricked lots of folks online this weekend — and you just might be one of them. The absurd image of the Pope in a puffy white coat that spread across Twitter was, in fact, generated with Midjourney. It quickly became a meme, but very few people were commenting on the true source of the image. Celebrities like Chrissy Teigen jumped in, admitting that that they were also fooled by the Pope’s puffer jacket. I thought the pope’s puffer…

CBN speaks on evacuation of banknotes to commercial banks, orders weekend operation

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday confirmed the evacuation of banknotes from its vaults to commercial banks across the country. The bank also directed all commercial banks to open for operation on Saturdays and Sundays. Despite its earlier directive to banks to dispense and receive the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes, Nigerians…

What to do this weekend: ‘Tempest,’ Lisa Kudrow at Groundlings

I’ve been obsessing all weekend over the Prime Video series “Swarm.” Dominique Fishback is haunting as a violent stan and Billie Eilish plays a cult leader a little too well. Just kidding. She’s just thriving in her acting era. If you’ve finished the show or don’t mind spoilers about the new series created by Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, check out our conversation with Fishback and Nabers. I’m Steven Vargas, your L.A. Goes Out host, and here are the top events for this upcoming weekend recommended by the crew (sign…
