Tata Altroz CNG to be launched on 19th April
Tata Motors is set to launch the Altroz CNG in India on April 19th, 2023, after showcasing it at the Auto Expo for almost three months. The new model will be positioned above the current CNG-powered variants of Tiago and Tigor in Tata Motors’ lineup.
The Altroz CNG is based on the current petrol-powered Altroz and features the same 1.2-liter, three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine. However, in the CNG mode, it delivers 77 PS of power and 97 Nm of torque, as compared to 86 PS and 113 Nm in the standard petrol mode. While the fuel efficiency claim for the Altroz CNG is yet to be revealed, it is expected to be similar to the Tiago CNG’s 26.49 km/kg.

The new Tata Altroz CNG, like the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG, has the feature of turning on the ignition directly in the CNG mode. The only transmission offered in the Tata Altroz CNG is a 5-speed manual gearbox, the same as that of the petrol version.
The only change in the exterior of the Tata Altroz CNG compared to its petrol-powered counterpart is the addition of the ‘iCNG’ badge on the boot lid. The Altroz CNG also features halogen projector headlamps and daytime running LEDs at the front, 16-inch machined alloy wheels on the side, and LED tail lamps with gloss black boot garnish at the rear.
Dual-cylinder set-up
Unlike the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG, the new Altroz CNG will have a unique dual-cylinder setup for the CNG tanks in the boot compartment. These tanks, with a capacity of 30 liters each, offer a similar tank capacity to the single 60-liter tank in the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG. However, the twin smaller 30-liter CNG tanks in the Altroz CNG are positioned under the boot floor, giving it a more usable boot compartment.
The new Tata Altroz CNG is expected to be available in three variants – XM, XZ, and XZ+, giving buyers the option of a fully-loaded Altroz CNG with all the possible features. The list of features from the petrol Altroz is expected to remain unchanged for the Altroz CNG, including a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an engine start-stop button, auto AC, leatherette seats, rear AC vents, and a front center armrest. However, Tata Motors may also add a sunroof in the Altroz CNG, as showcased in the car displayed at Auto Expo 2023.
The new Altroz CNG is expected to be priced almost Rs 90,000 higher than the petrol-powered Altroz and will directly compete with the CNG-powered variants of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza.
