Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves PC Review: The Best Version Yet

0 50

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is the latest title from the PlayStation catalogue that makes its way to the PC. The collection was initially released for the PlayStation 5 with reworked graphics and better performance for the modern console. However, due to the limited availability of the console two years after launch, many PC players can now enjoy PlayStation’s latest titles. The collection contains the remastered version of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: Lost Legacy, which can be enjoyed with higher performance and exceptional graphics.

Much like the PlayStation 5 version of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, the gameplay remains unchanged. However, it is worth pointing out that this collection is best enjoyed using the DualSense controller due to the number of exclusive features. While the game can be played using an Xbox or other XInput gamepads, players should strive for the proper experience the DualSense controller offers. The resistance in triggers and highly responsive haptic feedback makes this title far more exciting than using any regular gamepad. Furthermore, since players traverse the many environments, they can feel the different vibrations when parkouring, climbing, swinging, and interacting with puzzles. It is safe to say that Naughty Dog has implemented the same nuanced DualSense features in the PC version as the PS5 version. However, it is an expensive ask for players who don’t already own a DualSense controller. Nevertheless, using other gamepads also deliver a similar experience as the PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves PC: Graphics & Audio

The PC port of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is by far the most impressive port from PlayStation studios. Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy look incredible, even when using medium to high settings. The cinematic cutscenes translate even better on PC if players use modern graphic cards capable of delivering high-quality textures and reflections. In addition, every biome feels more life-like than it already did in the PlayStation 5 version. Unfortunately, while this PC port does support DLSS, there are no ray-tracing features players can use at the moment. Having said that, both games still look gorgeous without any ray-tracing settings and don’t really impact the overall visuals. In fact, not having Ray Tracing made the game perform even better on the RTX 2080ti.

However, what makes the PC version stand out is the audio quality for explosions, gunfire, dialogue, and background score. While the audio quality on the PlayStation 5 was already impressive, thanks to Sony’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, PC players can enjoy an even better experience depending on the hardware being used. For this review, the audio was routed through an external Focusrite sound card to a Sony 5.1 home theatre. As a result, the audio quality of both games is vastly superior to the PlayStation 5 version if players use a similar setup. Players don’t really need to have such an extensive setup, as the game still sounds brilliant using regular audio ports.

Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves PC: Performance and Other Features

Being a PC port of the Legacy of Thieves, this version runs better than its console counterpart, with a few more options for players to tweak. Overall, both Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy perform better, delivering higher frames, better lighting, and highly detailed textures. We reviewed this port using an RTX 2080ti Graphic Card coupled with some older hardware compared to 2022 standards. Both games still performed exceptionally well in both Ultra and High settings. Specifically, when running the games in the Ultra preset with DLSS turned on, the games averaged 140 -145 fps while exploring and parkouring. However, during intense gunfight sequences with multiple assets on the screen, the performance dropped to 132-137 fps which isn’t a considerable drop considering the hardware it was running on. It suffices to say that if players are using graphic cards from 2020 and later can squeeze out even better performance.

Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves PC: Graphics & Audio 2

The two games shine when using the High preset with the RTX 2080ti, as we could get even better performance without sacrificing too much of the visuals. In intense situations, the two games consistently ran on average of 158 frames per second which is more than enough to enjoy single-player titles. Furthermore, if players want to adjust specific settings, they can tweak parameters such as Model Quality, Textures, Shadows, Reflections, Ambient Occlusion, and Motion Blur, amongst many others.

What makes Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves the best PlayStation Studios PC port is that it can run on NVIDIA GTX 960 and NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphic cards. This enables many PC players to enjoy the title if they lock the performance to 30FPS and adjust settings according to their graphic cards. What helps players adjust these settings is the inclusion of a GPU and VRAM detection and management feature that lets them know the optimum settings to use.

Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves PC: Graphics & Audio 3

Finally, for AMD users, Uncharted: Legacy Of Thieves offers improved frame rates using AMD. FSR 2. It works somewhat similar to DLSS and is supposed to deliver improved frames and visuals for players using AMD graphic cards. However, since our test system did not have the required hardware, we couldn’t test this feature for this review.

Verdict

Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection gives PC players a chance to experience one of the most iconic series without the need to own a PlayStation 5. Priced at Rs 3,299, this is the best version of the collection to play in 2022. While priced slightly higher than the PlayStation version, it is still an excellent price for two incredible Naughty Dog titles that were previously exclusive to the PlayStation platform. With stunning visuals and performance, Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves can finally be enjoyed with powerful machines capable of delivering a far superior experience than its console counterpart.
