WhatsApp Will Show Statuses From The Chat List

0 81

Snapchat invented the Story feature, and just about every social media platform adopted it. Even the messaging app WhatsApp brought its own take on it, but it actually named the feature something different: Status. WhatsApp is working on an update that will let view statuses right from the chat list.

Statuses are pretty much classic Stories. You can post a string of photos or videos with all sorts of effects, filters, and text added for flair. People can see your status and get an idea of what’s going on with you. The Statuses will disappear after 24 hours, so they’re nothing really distinct from other platforms’ Stories.

You’ll be able to see statuses from the WhatsApp chat list

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on rolling out a new update to its beta testers. With this new update, when you’re looking at the chat list, you’ll be able to directly access your contacts’ statuses. Up top, there’s a dedicated tab you can tap on to see the statuses.

However, with this update, you’ll see a ring around the contact’s profile picture in the chat list. That indicates that they’ve posted a new status. It’s much the same thing with Instagram and Snapchat. Tapping on the profile picture will show you the status.

This feature is still in the developmental stage, so you shouldn’t expect to see it hit the public just yet. The company has been testing the feature on the desktop version of the service. That version shows a similar green ring around the profile picture, but it’s actually split into two parts.

For the mobile version, this feature has been spotted on both the iOS and Android platforms. We’re not sure how it will look on iOS, but WABetaInfo has provided a screenshot of the Android version.

There’s no telling when you can expect this feature to land for the public. You could usually get the feature earlier than others if you were a part of the beta program. However, the beta program is currently full.
