Writing, A Rewarding Experience | HackerNoon

0 89

The internet is the greatest invention of the last X hundred years. Yet, much of it is counterproductive, with companies working against each other to “own the user.” At Hacker Noon, we’re committed to rewarding our contributors for all the work and dedication put into their stories. For that reason, we have added a Rewards Tabwhere users can check all the ways they can monetize their content and get prizes while doing what they love.

Rewards Tab is currently made up of two components: Web Monetization, where the contributing writers can get direct micropayments from Coil members, and Writing Contests, where any writer can enter by writing thoughtful stories and submitting them to certain tags to win cash prizes from sponsors.

Fun fact – Writing Contests have passed rewards this year 🙂

Contest Your Writing

Writing contests are a great way to add authority and attach prestige to your stories. With over $100k committed to writing contests this year, Hackernoon has partnered up with big names in the industry to bring you unmissable contests. But that’s not all we have to offer: by publishing with #contest-tags on __HackerNoon__stories, you enter to win monthly prizes from sponsors! Sickening, right?!

Are the contests still running?

The answer, our most esteemed writers, is yes! Read on to find out which contests are still going.

The DeFi Writing Contest by SORA:

A writing contest about decentralized finance? Count me in! You can submit a story about anything related to the main topic, for example, the crypto industry, your opinion piece on the current state of finance and DeFi, your DeFi projects, crypto investments, etc. You can check out defistories for inspiration.

The Linux Writing Contest by Linode

Are you a Linux aficionado? Then, this is the right contest for you. Submit a story on the #__linux__operating system, whether in an opinion piece, an expert interview, or a tutorial.**

The Cybersecurity Writing Contest by Twingate

Here’s an opportunity for you to share your expertise and stories on all offensive and defensive mechanisms to secure the internet. Discuss anything from the latest cybersec incidents, interviews, discussions, and philosophical questions related to #cybersecurity!**

The Debugging Writing Contest by Sentry

Bugs are devs’ everyday annoying jigsaw puzzles. In the #Debugging Writing Contest we want to read about a time when you struggled (and later triumphed!) to identify a bug or performance issue in your web application, mobile application, or game and the steps you took to ultimately solve the problem. Give other developers inspiration. Sharing is caring!

The Growth Marketing Writing Contest by mParticle

Starting September 1st, 2022, this contest is open to all your stories on product management, customer data platform, growth marketing, data engineering, and data management. Don’t forget to use the #__growth-marketing__tag!

Be sure to check out the rules and guidelines for participation, prizes, and a general description of the writing contest you’re running for before submitting your story. Winners will be announced on the Hackernoon website under the tag related to that contest. Something similar to this.

A few of our previous winners from The Decentralized Internet Writing Contest were:

We hope to have inspired you to reap the benefits of your labor, but in the end, it all comes down to you, our writers. So, get your keyboard and screen out and start typing. Good luck!

Let’s UnCoil Web Monetization

Facilitating web monetization has always been one of the greatest dreams at Hackernoon, and we’ve gladly been practicing it for a couple of years running. Our partnership with Coil has helped us to have contributing writers add their Coil metatag, and Coil subscribers automatically stream micropayments to HackerNoon writers.

Therefore, as one of Hackernoon’s possible rewards, writers can receive small payments via Coil, as Coil Members spend time on their stories. Coil pays $0.36 for every hour a Coil Member spends on your content, which means the longer they stay, the more money you earn. I guess we can say: it pays off to be a Hackernoon writer.

How do you set yourself up to earn Coil rewards?

Step 1: Add a payment pointer to your profile.

Step 2: Include the W3C standard web monetization tag to your content.

Step 3: Watch as coil payments fall right into your tab

Remember! If you don’t enter a payment pointer, your earnings will join the #backtotheinternet pool.

What’s The Back to The Internet Pool?

It’s Hacker Noon’s pool of web monetized earnings that will be donated to a nonprofit or open source project that is actively making a better internet. We’ll nominate potential projects, and the community will vote on which deserves the donation, and then once a month, we will donate via our Payment Pointer.

We’re excited for our contributing writers’ votes to determine how we impact the way the internet is built. Also, if you just want to support The Back to the Internet Pool, email us!
