Xiaomi 13 Ultra gets announced with God tier camera hardware
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is now official. The company announced its new flagship, globally, and thanks to rumors and leaks, it’s exactly what we expected. Back when we reviewed the Xiaomi 13 Pro, we were wondering what the ‘Ultra’ model could bring to the table, and quite honestly, Xiaomi managed to do even more than expected.

There’s a lot to talk about here, and even though we usually start things off with the design, let’s focus on the cameras first. The camera aspect is, without a doubt, Xiaomi’s main focus here
Xiaomi included five cameras overall here, but the four on the back are in focus. You will find four 50-megapixel cameras on the back. The main one is a 50-megapixel Sony IM989 unit. That is Sony’s 1-inch camera sensor that several flagships used thus far, including two of Xiaomi’s, not counting this one. This is the first phone that includes a variable aperture in combination with that camera sensor, however. It can switch from f/1.9 to f/4.0, depending on the scene. So regardless of whether you’re doing some portrait work, or want to indulge in street photography, this should help.
The main camera stole the show, but this phone has a truly versatile setup in the back
That main camera is the star of the show, but it doesn’t tell the whole picture, not at all. Xiaomi also included three Sony IMX858 cameras on the back. Those three cameras are ultrawide, telephoto, and super-telephoto units. So, the company did change things up compared to the ‘Pro’ model, and it also added a 120mm “super-telephoto” camera on the back (f/3.0 aperture). Both Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic shooting modes are still present here. The ultrawide camera also serves as a macro camera, by the way (5cm macro).
Leica lenses are included on all four cameras, in case you were wondering. A front-facing camera is a 32-megapixel unit, seemingly the same one used on the Xiaomi 13 Pro.
Now, the design is also quite interesting. The front side does look quite generic, which is to be expected. You’re getting a curved display, with thin bezels, and a centered display camera hole.
It has a “second-generation nano-tech material” on the back
When you flip the phone over, however, things get interesting. All four color options of the phone have a vegan leather backplate. Xiaomi refers to it as the “second-generation nano-tech material”. This is a soft-touch anti-bacterial coating, “ultra resistant to wear and dirt”. It’s also resistant to UV rays, says the company. The phone’s frame is made out of metal, of course.
If you check out the provided images, you’ll see that the backplate itself is a bit thicker in the upper portion of the phone, and thinner in the lower portion. Why? Well, because of the camera island. That circular camera island is so thick, that Xiaomi wanted to soften the blow this way, and it actually doesn’t look half bad. The camera island itself is also neatly organized, so it’s not an eyesore.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 fuels the device, while a large LTPO AMOLED panel is included too
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 fuels the phone, Qualcomm’s most powerful SoC. That is the same processor that is included in the other two Xiaomi 13 high-end phones. Xiaomi also offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 flash storage.
A 6.73-inch WQHD+ AMOLED LTPO display is also included. It has an adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz (1-120Hz). This is also the brightest display on the market at 2,600 nits of peak brightness.
90W wired charging is supported, as is 50W wireless charging
Android 13 comes pre-installed, along with MIUI 14. A 5,000mAh battery powers the device, while the phone supports 90W wired, and 50W wireless charging, plus reverse wireless charging. Yes, a charger is included in the box.
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, while it supports Bluetooth 5.3. Stereo speakers are included, with Dolby Atmos support. An optical in-display fingerprint scanner is a part of the package too, along with in-display heart rate monitoring. It has all the bells and whistles you’d expect, and then some.
