Samsung‘s much-awaited Galaxy S23 series is official today. The Galaxy S23 Ultra tops the lineup with specifications and features you won’t find on any other smartphone. One of the highlights of this device is the built-in S Pen. While Samsung doesn’t seem to have improved the S Pen technology this year, the accessory is still no slouch. You get the stylus bundled with the phone, which also has a dedicated silo to keep it. But should you need to buy it separately, Samsung will sell the S Pen to you for $49.99. You can pick the accessory in the same colors as your handset: Green, Cream, Lavender, and Phantom Black.

You can purchase Samsung’s S Pen separately

The S Pen that comes bundled with the Galaxy S23 Ultra is the same one that Samsung shipped with the Galaxy S22 Ultra last year. This may not sound promising at first, but the company gave the stylus a massive technological upgrade last year as it started offering the iconic accessory built-in with the Ultra model in the Galaxy S lineup. The Galaxy S21 Ultra in 2021 also supported the S Pen, but it didn’t have a dedicated silo. The 2022 Ultra model fully embraced the accessory, carrying forward the legacy of the now-discontinued Galaxy Note lineup.

The upgraded S Pen has an incredibly low latency of 2.8 milliseconds (down from 9 milliseconds), allowing for a real pen-like experience. It features a 0.7mm fine tip and 4,096 pressure levels to make writing and drawing on the phone’s screen as smooth as on paper. The stylus also serves as a remote controller for your Galaxy S23 Ultra or Galaxy S22 Ultra. You can use it to control the camera shutter, switch between cameras, pause or turn up your playlist, and much more. With Air Command, you can pull up features like Smart Select, Screen Write, Live Messages, and more without even touching the screen.

All in all, Samsung’s S Pen makes the Galaxy S23 Ultra an ideal smartphone for multitaskers and power users. Should you damage the accessory that comes built-in with your phone, you will be able to purchase it for just $49.99 from Samsung’s official website.

The device itself is now available for pre-order starting at $1,199 (8GB+256GB). If you pick up the 12GB+256GB variant, you’ll have to shell out $1,299. The 12GB+512GB option will cost you $1,399. You’ll get a free upgrade to the higher storage variant if you pre-order now, though. General sales will begin on February 17.
