YouTube TV has officially announced the long-awaited Multiview feature that quickly became the talk of the town after being teased last year. The innovative addition to the platform will allow viewers to watch up to four different pre-selected streams, such as matches and sports events, concurrently. The feature will also become available on Samsung Smart TVs that use the Tizen operating system.

Rumors that the company was working on multiview, then referred to as “Mosaic Mode,” circulated in August last year. While this feature does not lend itself to regular television programs, it could be of interest to sports enthusiasts who want to follow several games at once and keep tabs on scores without the hassle of repeated channel-switching.

The Multiview feature, for now, is limited to sports content

Multiview is being trialed as part of March Madness. For now, only a select number of users can access the feature on their TVs. It allows you to watch two, three, or four games simultaneously – either two side-by-side, three (two above and one below), or four in a 2×2 grid. Moreover, you can switch audio and captions between streams and toggle between a full-screen view of the game.

If eligible, you may select the multiview feature from the Top Picks for You section within the YouTube TV app on your Samsung TV. Once done, you will receive an email, and an alert will be displayed if you have been given access to it.

At launch, YouTube TV says the new feature is restricted to sports content, thus making it impossible for you to watch your regular TV shows and news broadcasts on the same screen as your sports games — yet. But the streaming giant is apparently mulling over ways to expand this feature across its massive content library.
