2 Dying Franchises Rumored to Cross Over for One Last Roll of the Dice

Whenever a long-running franchise begins to run out of gas, the obvious solution for the studio is to hit the reboot button and hope that a fresh coat of paint does the trick. That being said, what happens if you end up with two of them on your hands at the same time? In the case of Paramount, a rumor claims that Transformers and G.I. Joe could finally end up getting that crossover.

Of course, Rise of the Beasts is coming to theaters in less than two weeks and has already been announced as the first installment in a brand new trilogy, but what it it bombs? After all, takings for Michael Bay’s five-film stint dropped by over half a billion dollars between Age of Extinction and The Last Knight, while Bumblebee is the lowest-grossing Transformers ever.

G.I. Joe, on the other hand, hasn’t been successful at all. Even though The Rise of Cobra, Retaliation, and Snake Eyes all under-performed at the box office and fared miserably with critics, it’s been confirmed that plans for fourth stab at the property are afoot, with “why?” being the most pertinent and pressing question.

Then again, combining the two Hasbro behemoths in one blockbuster definitely isn’t the worst idea we’ve ever heard, and it might even generate some genuine interest, curiosity, excitement, and enthusiasm for a change. It’s all just hypothetical whisperings for now, though, but we know better than to doubt Hollywood’s propensity for throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks.
