2023 all-new Hyundai Verna spotted testing in India; Launch soon

With the arrival of newer sedans like the Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus and fifth-generation Honda City, the Hyundai Verna is gradually losing its popularity among the already declining customer base of sedans. However, Hyundai is set to change the notion with the all-new fourth-generation Verna, the testing of which is already going in a full-fledged manner. The car has been spied once again under test and is touted to make its global debut at the Auto Expo 2023.

A test mule of the upcoming all-new Hyundai Verna was recently spied by V3Cars on the roads of Gurugram in a fully-camouflaged avatar, which hints at some of the highlights that the production version of the car will get, once it is launched in India. The new Verna is likely to get a split headlamp design, much like the Venue and Creta, which will come adorned with daytime running LEDs on the top. The new Verna will also get a parametric grille, which was recently seen on the all-new Tucson.

The test mule of the Hyundai Verna was also seen with front parking sensors at the front and a raised waistline and diamond-cut alloy wheels on the side. The car appears to be much longer than the current version of the Verna, which indicates that it will measure above 4.5 metres, much like all of its new competitors. At the back, the new Hyundai Verna will get split LED tail lamps connected by an LED light bar, which might make it the first sedan in its category to get this design highlight. The interior of this car was not revealed in the images, though.

While the new Hyundai Verna will get a completely revamped design inside-out, expect it to retain the current powertrain lineup. It means that the new Verna will continue to be offered with a 1.5-litre 115 PS naturally-aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-litre 115 PS diesel engine and a 1.0-litre 120 PS turbocharged petrol engine. However, it is being said that the 1.5-litre petrol engine might get additional assistance from a mild-hybrid system, much like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

It means that the new Verna will be offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine (115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque), a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine (115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque). Given that the bars have been raised by Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus, the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol might be replaced with a bigger 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces 140 PS of power and 242 Nm of torque in the currently-available Hyundai Creta.

The new Hyundai Verna is likely to get a high-profile launch at the Auto Expo 2023, joined by other upcoming Hyundai models like the Ioniq 5, Creta facelift and the Kona Electric facelift, all of which are already available overseas. With bigger dimensions and more modern features, expect the new Hyundai Verna to be much pricier than the current version of the sedan.
