January of 2023 is going to be a huge month for the Indian auto industry as we will see a heavy influx of brand-new electric vehicles, SUVs, and some niche products. It will also be significantly more important because of the return of the Auto Expo. The show was on hiatus for three years due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many major automakers of the country will be embracing the show with their presence and reportedly there will be a number of launches and unveils at the event. There will be a few well-known automakers that will be avoiding the show, however, they will still be launching a few new cars as well.

To rival the newly launched Tata Tiago EV the country’s most affordable electric hatchback the French automaker Citroen is all set to launch the electrified version of its hatchback c3 – the eC3. The company will be launching the model at the Auto Expo 2023. Citroen is looking to enter the mass market EV segment to create a stronger foothold in the country. Reportedly if the model becomes a success in the country it will also start the export of this vehicle from India to international markets as well. The upcoming model has been spotted on numerous occasions in the roads testing and a few times at public charging stations. Recently a picture of the interior of the eC3 was also leaked online.

The British automotive marque owned by the Chinese auto giant SAIC Motor Corp., Ltd will finally take the covers off of the 2023 Hector facelift on January 5. The company has kept the facelifted model under wraps for quite some time now. However, a few days ago, the company rolled out the 1,00,000th unit of the Hector from its production facility in Halol, Gujarat which was this new facelifted version of the SUV. The 10,00,000th vehicle was heavily covered with flowers to hide the updated front grille. The new Hector will feature a heavily revised front and a slightly changed rear design. The biggest change according to MG will in the interior of this SUV.

Mahindra is one of the major automakers of the country that will be avoiding the Auto Expo 2023 but will be launching two new cars in January of 2023. the country’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer is all set to launch the more affordable iteration of its highly popular SUV the Thar. Recently a video of a Youtuber driving the driving the production-spec version of the rear-wheel drive Mahindra Thar on the roads of Chandigarh surfaced on YouTube.

Instead of the 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine from the four-wheel drive version, this new Mahindra Thar model will have a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. This new engine, which is shared with the Mahindra XUV300, has a maximum output of 116 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque.

As mentioned Mahindra will be launching two new cars in January of 2023, the first will be the Thar 1.5 2WD and the second will be the brands all-new electric sub-compact hatchback the XUV400 EV. The new EV will be based on the ICE XUV300 although will boast an all-electric powertrain. Upon launch this EV will directly compete with Tata’s highly popular Nexon EV.

An electric motor will be powering the Mahindra XUV400 Electric, producing 310 Nm of peak torque and 147 Bhp of peak power at idle. The 39.4 kWh battery pack powering the electric SUV is said to give it a 456-kilometer range. The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h will happen in 8.3 seconds, and the highest speed will be electronically restricted at 150 km/h.
