‘Across the Spider-Verse’ Survived the Contributions of ‘Quantumania’ Writer

There are many people to blame for the failure of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but a lot of people have decided to focus their ire on Jeff Loveness in particular given that he was the person who wrote the screenplay.

Of course, there are a multitude of people above his pay grade who need to sign off on such things before even a solitary word of his dialogue can be uttered in front of a camera on set, but the internet pays no heed to such trivialities. Unfounded rumors have even claimed he’s been removed from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which saw certain corners breathe a sigh of relief.

And yet, it turns out that the Rick and Morty alum can make meaningful contributions to the superhero discourse, after he revealed on Twitter that he’d contributed several jokes to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse that made it into the final cut, which landed him both a “Special Thanks” in the credits and the bulletproof status that he was involved in what’s destined to go down as 2023’s best comic book adaptation.

That would have sounded unfathomable to say in the aftermath of Quantumania being torn to shreds by everyone imaginable, but one half-baked screenplay does not a bad writer make. Well, it does in the eyes of the MCU faithful looking at how quickly they also happened to turn on Taika Waititi, but you get the point.

If Loveness is back behind the keyboard for The Kang Dynasty, then let’s hope it’s more Spider-Verse 2 than Ant-Man 3.
