Adani Group Planning Partnership With Uber, Aims To Roll Out New Passenger Vehicle Fleet

The Adani Group is now looking to make an entrance into the cab service space with a partnership alongside Uber.

Reportedly, negotiations took place between the two sides recently, hinting towards possible future collaborations between the Adani Group and Uber.

As per the Economic Times’ sources, Indian billionaire Gautam Adani and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi discussed a strategic alliance that would enable the Adani Group to become a fleet operator by buying and listing multiple four-wheeled automobiles. According to the same sources, the Adani Group will not be aiming at manufacturing cars of their own.

Adani Group and Uber already have a partnership which enables Adani Airports to provide dedicated pick-up zones for the cab-hailing service at its airports. The Adani Group’s plans to join the ride-hailing space will primarily be centred around the airports under the group.

The locations include Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Mumbai. The second phase of this partnership could see an integration between the cab aggregator app with the conglomerate’s 2022 travel superapp Adani One.

Following the discussion between the Adani Group and Uber, Gautam Adani sent out a post on X talking about their meeting. He wrote, “Absolutely captivating chat with Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. His vision for Uber’s expansion in India is truly inspiring, especially his commitment to uplifting Indian drivers and their dignity. Excited for future collaborations with Dara and his team!”

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi also addressed the meeting between him and Gautam Adani on X. While quoting the original post from Adani, the CEO wrote, “An absolutely terrific conversation with Gautam Adani over delicious breakfast about India’s phenomenal growth and rising entrepreneurship. Uber is committed to scaling up shared mobility and accelerating the transition to EVs – looking forward to take our partnership to the next level.

Uber has been quite vocal about making a complete shift to electric vehicles by the year 2040. The move is primarily motivated by its commitment to zero-emission mobility. The ride-hailing application has already launched its environmentally friendly EV service in Delhi known as Uber Green.

This isn’t the first time they are trying to expand their electric vehicle ride-hailing fleet. Only last year, it was announced that Uber had reached an agreement with Tata Motors.

Under this new partnership, Uber’s fleet partners such as Mumbai-based Everest Fleet would end up acquiring over 25,000 electric four-wheelers. Other than this EV partnership, Uber and Tata Group are also looking to reach a new strategic alliance that would see them implement Uber’s services as an ‘anchor app’ in the Tata Neu ecosystem.
