The biggest challenge for startups in artificial intelligence (AI) is the lack of infrastructure, global chip manufacturing giant Nvidia’s managing director of South Asia, Vishal Dhupar, said on Friday.

“Without the instrument of AI, how do you do AI,” said Dhupar at the TiEcon Delhi 2024 startup conference.

“If you have the infrastructure, you can be building your intelligence locally and exporting it. You can transform yourself from a back-office of the world, to be the office of the world.”

“As the infrastructure part gets resolved, are we willing to do things at scale,” he queried, while referring to UPI being a great example of scale.

Dhupar also talked about the industries that stand to gain from AI, particularly highlighting the financial and healthcare sectors.

“The fact that you can carry forward your electronic health records so that from day one when you visit a doctor, your records are available and can be shared based on your confidentiality and approval, makes a dramatic difference,” he added.
