All-new Honda WR-V in a first drive review

Honda recently revealed their all-new WR-V compact SUV in Indonesian market. The nex-gen WR-V looks very different from the one that we have in India and it also gets many features that none of the other SUVs in the segment offer yet. Honda WR-V will be competing with cars like Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. There are reports that suggest that Honda might introduce this new SUV in Indian market. Honda recently conducted media drive for the new WR-V and here we have a review video that talks about the same.

In this video, the vlogger takes the new WR-V RS out for a short spin and he tests some of the Honda Sensing features while he was driving. When compared to current version of Honda WR-V that we have in India, the RS variant of the SUV looks very different. It looks more like an SUV now than before. It has a muscular looking front-end with Honda’s signature grille with jewel chrome finish on it. The headlamps are all LEDs and it also gets integrated LED DRLs too. The muscular bumper has LED fog lamps and the lower part of the bumper gets silver coloured skid plate.

The front-end does remind of Honda Amaza from some angle which is not a coincidence as the SUV is based on the same platform as Amaze. It is a compact SUV that is slightly over 4 meters and the chances of Honda bringing this SUV to India are high but, the manufacturer has not confirmed anything yet. if they ever bring this to India, Honda will have to make some changes to ensure that the car falls under the sub-4 meter category. The vlogger tests the Honda sensing feature of Adaptive cruise control where he sets the distance from the vehicle in front of him and sets the speed to check if the car follows the same. The WR-V was accelerating and decelerating the speed depending on the speed of the vehicle in front, if any two-wheeler was coming in front, the car was detecting that too.

We have tested the same feature in the Honda City strong hybrid version earlier this year. Other than adaptive cruise control, Honda WR-V also offers collision mitigation braking system (CMBS), lane keep assist system, road departure mitigation system, lead departure notification system and auto high beam feature. He even shows how the lane change assist works in the video. The camera under the left wing mirror shows feed when the indicator is turned on. This helps in minimising accindents and blind spots.

Coming to the engine and transmission of the all-new HR-V, it is powered by a 1.5 liter i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine good for 121 Bhp-145 Nm. The same engine is also available with current generation Honda City sedan. When the same comes to India, Honda might replace the 1.5 litre motor to a smaller 1.2 litre just like what we have in Honda Amaze.
