Android 13 widely available for Galaxy A13 LTE in the US

Samsung fans and smartphone enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the Galaxy S23 launch later today. But if you’re using an unlocked Galaxy A13 (LTE model) in the US, we have more exciting news for you. Android 13 is available for your phone. Users with an unlocked 5G model of the phone are not quite lucky, though.

Samsung began rolling out the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update to the Galaxy A13 lineup in early December last year. It first updated the 5G model and then switched focus to the 4G model. After the initial rollout in international markets, the new Android version reached the US towards the end of the month. As expected, users with the 5G-enabled handset got it first. The LTE model finally joined the party last week.

However, Samsung initially only updated the carrier-locked versions of the Galaxy A13 phones in the US. Today, Android 13 has reached unlocked units of the LTE model. The big Android update is live for the phone on most carrier networks, including AT&T, Verizon, Bluegrass Cellular, Cellular South, Comcast, Cricket Wireless, Nextech, US Cellular, and Xfinity Mobile (via). The remaining few operators should also join the party soon. The new firmware version for the phone is A135U1UEU2BWA2.

Unfortunately, Android 13 still isn’t available for unlocked units of the Galaxy A13 5G. Hopefully, Samsung will not delay things much further now. If you’re using either Galaxy A13 model and haven’t updated your phone to the new Android version yet, you can check for it from the Settings app. Go to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it. If you don’t see any updates, wait a few days and check again. You may also get a notification once the OTA (over the air) release hits your unit.

Galaxy A13 LTE is getting the January security update with Android 13

The Android 13 update for unlocked Galaxy A13 LTE brings Samsung’s January security patch. Last month’s SMR (Security Maintenance Release) contains more than 70 vulnerability patches. The Korean firm may soon start rolling out the February SMR to eligible Galaxy devices. The Galaxy A13 lineup may not get it, though. These budget phones are only eligible for quarterly security updates. Samsung will skip a few monthly releases in between. The LTE model will get Android 14 too, but Android 13 may be the last major Android OS release for the Galaxy A13 5G.
